Europrotomus is an extinct genus of fossil sea snails, true conches, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Strombidae, the true conchs.
Species within the genus Europrotomus include:
This genus was described by Gijs C. Kronenberg and Mathias Harzhauser in 2012 especially for the fossil species previously known as Strombus schroeckingeri. [1] That species existed during the Miocene in what is now Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania.
Strombidae, commonly known as the true conchs, is a taxonomic family of medium-sized to very large sea snails in the superfamily Stromboidea, and the Epifamily Neostromboidae. The term true conchs, being a common name, does not have an exact meaning. It may generally refer to any of the Strombidae but sometimes is used more specifically to include only Strombus and Lambis. The family currently includes 26 extant, and 10 extinct genera.
Lobatus is a genus of very large sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Strombidae, the true conchs. Some of the species within this genus were previously placed in the genus Eustrombus.
Euprotomus aurisdianae, common name the Diana conch, is a species of small to medium-sized sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Strombidae, the true conchs.
Conorbis is an extinct genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Conorbidae.
Euprotomus aurora is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Strombidae, the true conchs. It is found in the Indian Ocean. This species has long been confused with the similar Euprotomus aurisdianae, which is a West Pacific species.
Canarium scalariforme is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Strombidae, the true conchs.
Thersistrombus is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Strombidae, the true conchs.
Varicospira is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Rostellariidae within the Stromboidea, the true conchs and their allies.
Persististrombus is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Strombidae, the true conchs.
Tridentarius is a monospecific genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Strombidae, the true conchs.
Dolomena is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Strombidae, the true conchs.
Mirabilistrombus is a monospecific genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Strombidae, the true conchs.
Europrotomus schroeckingeri is an extinct species of fossil true conch from the Middle Miocene.
Persististrombus coronatus is an extinct species of fossil true conch from the Late Miocene to Pliocene.
This list, 2012 in molluscan paleontology, is a list of new taxa of ammonites and other fossil cephalopods, as well as fossil gastropods and bivalves that have been described during the year 2012.
Persististrombus nodosus is an extinct species of fossil sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Strombidae, the conchs.
Persististrombus radix is an extinct species of fossil sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Strombidae, the conchs.
Thetystrombus is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Strombidae, the true conchs.
Macrostrombus is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Strombidae, the true conchs.
