FC Dynamo Odesa is an amateur association football team from Odesa. It is widely believed that the club along with Pishchevik were predecessors of FC Chornomorets Odesa.
The club was established in 1926 based on local team Sparta Odesa that was created few years earlier in 1923.
For couple of seasons in 1938–1939 the team was member of the Soviet football championship Group A, the Soviet league's top tier.
In 1940 the Dynamo Odesa football team was dissolved and its players joined Pishchevik sports society that was recently promoted to the Soviet football championship Group B, the Soviet second tier, from the Ukrainian republican competitions.
Sometime after the World War II FC Dynamo Odesa was revived and continued participate in regional competitions of Odesa Oblast.

The Ukrainian Premier League or UPL is the highest division of Ukrainian annual football championship. As the Vyshcha Liha it was formed in 1991 as part of the 1992 Ukrainian football championship upon discontinuation of the 1991 Soviet football championship and included the Ukraine-based clubs that competed previously in the Soviet top three tiers competitions as well as better clubs of the Ukrainian republican competitions. The initial season of the league featured six former Soviet Top League clubs among which were Dynamo, Shakhtar, Chornomorets, Dnipro, Metalist, Metalurh as well as four more clubs that previously also competed at the top league.

The Soviet First League in football was the second highest division of Soviet football, below the Soviet Top League.
The Ukrainian Cup is an association football national knockout cup competition run by the Ukrainian Association of Football. The competition is conducted almost exclusively among professional clubs. Since the 2003–04 season, the Cup winner qualifies to play the Ukrainian Premier League winner for the Ukrainian Super Cup.
1992 Vyshcha Liha was the first football championship organized in Ukraine after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and officially recognized by the UEFA. The last Soviet season finished in fall of 1991.
FC Nyva Ternopil is a Ukrainian football club from the city of Ternopil, the administrative center of Ternopil Oblast. As of the 2020–21 season, it played in the Ukrainian First League, the second tier of Ukrainian football, following promotion from the 2019–20 Ukrainian Second League. Originally the club was formed as Nyva Pidhaitsi in the small town Pidhaitsi in 1978, then moved to a district centre Berezhany changing its name to Nyva Berezhany in 1982, and finally moved to Ternopil becoming Nyva Ternopil in 1985. In 2016 the club withdrew from the professional competitions and was reestablished as PFC Nyva Ternopil.
SC Odesa is a former Ukrainian football team that appeared in 1992 following the reorganization of the Soviet SKA Odesa. The new city municipal team was located in Odesa, Ukraine and previously at one point was part of the Soviet Army sport system.
The 1991 Soviet Top League season was 22nd in the Top League and the 54th since the establishment of nationwide club competition, also the last one. Dynamo Kyiv were the defending 13-times champions and came fifth this season. A total of sixteen teams participated in the league, twelve of them have contested in the 1990 season while the remaining four were promoted from the Soviet First League due to withdrawals. The representatives of the Baltic states as well as Georgia chose not to take part in the competition.
The 1990 Soviet Top League season was the 53rd since its establishment. Spartak Moscow were the defending 12-times champions, but came only fifth this season and marginally qualified for continental competitions. The league was shortened and a total of fourteen teams participated. By the start of the season both Georgian teams had withdrawn followed by another withdrawal from Žalgiris at the start of competition. The league consisted of ten teams contested in the 1989 season and the Army club promoted from the Soviet First League. The representatives of the Baltic states as well as Georgia chose not to take part in the competition.
Like the championship, the first edition of the Cup had a tight schedule as the Football Federation of Ukraine was given just several months in order to switch to the European seasonal format with the minimum required matches played.
Football is the most popular sport in Ukraine. The Ukrainian Association of Football is the national governing body and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the game of football in the country. It was organised in 1991 to replace the Soviet republican-level Football Federation of Ukrainian SSR, created earlier in the 1920s as part of the Soviet system of physical culture councils. The Ukrainian Association of Football is a non-governmental organization and is a member of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.

Ukrainian football clubs have participated in European football competitions since 1965, when in the 1965–66 season, Dynamo Kyiv took part in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup – the first Ukrainian and the first Soviet club to do so. In total, 17 clubs have represented Ukraine in European competition, among which 7 also previously represented the Soviet Union.
FC Dynamo Kyiv women team is a Soviet and Ukrainian women's football team of FC Dynamo Kyiv. The team was liquidated in 1994 after Dynamo Kyiv was acquired by Hryhoriy Surkis. But again renewed in 2021 and entered to the Ukrainian Women's League to play in the First League.

The 2021–22 Ukrainian Cup was the 31st annual season of Ukraine's football knockout competition. The competition started on 4 August 2021 and was expected to be concluded on 11 May 2022 with the final. The Ukrainian Association of Football announced that the new competition sponsor is a betting company VBet, same as for the Ukrainian Premier League. Dynamo Kyiv were the two-time defending winners.
