Stony Brook station (LIRR)

Stony Brook is a historic station on the Port Jefferson Branch of the Long Island Rail Road. It is located in Stony Brook, New York on the southeast side of New York State Route 25A, across the street from the intersection of Route 25A with Cedar Street. On the opposite side of the tracks is Stony Brook University. There is also a gated at-grade pedestrian crossing between the station and a parking lot at the University, one of only a few stations on the Long Island Rail Road to feature such crossings. The train station is located in the Three Village Central School District.

The station is located on Lake Avenue and Railroad Avenue, just south of New York State Route 25A in St. James, Suffolk County, New York. The LIRR gives the address as being at Lake Avenue and Second Street, however Second Street is across the tracks and terminates at Lake Avenue on the opposite side of a parking lot for a King Kullen shopping center. John Lewis Childs American horticultural entrepreneur and politician

John Lewis Childs was a horticultural businessman and politician who founded Floral Park, New York. In addition to a widespread reputation for being a zealous ornithologist, Childs is also credited with founding the first mail order seed catalog business in the United States.

Flowerfield was a former station along the Port Jefferson Branch of the Long Island Rail Road in Saint James, New York. The station opened in 1910 on a 1,000-acre (400 ha) parcel purchased by John Lewis Childs to grow plants and seeds, which was later acquired by the Gyrodyne Company of America. The second floor of the station even had a small greenhouse. The station closed in 1958.
