It is the modern descendant of the Eastern Suburbs Technical College established in 1908, renamed Swinburne Technical College in 1913 after its co-founders George and Ethel Swinburne. At its foundation in 1981, it was primarily a teachers college. At its end, it had a diverse range of courses in a broad range of subjects.
