Frederick John Alsop (born 20 October 1938 in Plaistow, Essex) is a British former triple jumper and long jumper.
He competed in the 1960 Summer Olympics, in the 1964 Summer Olympics, and in the 1968 Summer Olympics. [1] His best result was his fourth place in the triple jump at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.
He represented England and won a bronze medal in the triple jump at the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth, Western Australia. [2] He repeated the achievement fours years later by winning another bronze at the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston, Jamaica. [3]
Mary Denise Rand, MBE is a British former track and field athlete. She won the long jump at the 1964 Summer Olympics by breaking the world record, the first British female to win an Olympic gold medal in track and field. Until Emma Finucane in 2024, she was the only British female athlete to win three medals in a single Games.
The men's triple jump was one of four men's jumping events on the Athletics at the 1964 Summer Olympics program in Tokyo. It was held on 16 October 1964. 36 athletes from 23 nations entered, with 2 not starting in the qualification round. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event was won by Józef Szmidt of Poland, the third man to repeat as Olympic champion in the triple jump. Just as in 1960, the Soviet Union took silver and bronze behind Szmidt.
