Gendang Beleq dance is a sacred folk dance tradition of Sasak people [1] of Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. [2] This dance demonstrates dance performance with big drums, called gendang beleq . [3]
Gendang beleq can be performed during life-cycle ceremonies, such as celebration of birth, circumcision, wedding and funeral. It can also be performed in a ceremony to invoke rainfall or in a celebrations for national holidays. [4]
The name of Gendang Beleq dance is a Sasak language term, which means "big drum", [5] as the performance is about a group of musicians playing, dancing and marching with their traditional instruments, centered on two big kendang (drums) players.
The Gendang Beleq dance is performed in a group form of orchestra. [6] The orchestra consists of two gendang beleqs, that are male gendang mama and female gendang nina to carriers the dynamics. Kodeq drum, a sniper rifle and a code shooter as a rhythmic tool. While a gong and two reogs, that are reog nina and reog mama to carriers the melody. The player for the ensemble is called sekehe. It is composed of males only (usually young boys). [7] Gendang beleq usually performed by 13 or 17 people. [8]

Reog or Réyog is a traditional Indonesian dance in an open arena that serves as folk entertainment, contains magical elements, the main dancer is a lion-headed person with a peacock feather decoration, plus several masked dancers and Kuda Lumping. Gandrung is a traditional dance from Indonesia. Gandrung has many variations and is popular in Bali, Lombok and Eastern Java among the Balinese, Sasak and Javanese. The most popular variation is gandrung from the Banyuwangi region in the eastern peninsula of Java, so much that the city is often referred as Kota Gandrung or "the city of gandrung". Originally a ritual dance dedicated to the goddess of rice and fertility, Dewi Sri, it is currently performed as a social dance of courtship and love in communal and social events, or as a tourist attraction. Gandrung Sewu Festival is held at Banyuwangi annually.
