Munich is a Landkreis (district) in Bavaria, Germany. It borders the districts of Dachau, Freising, Erding, Ebersberg, Rosenheim, Miesbach, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Starnberg, Fürstenfeldbruck, and almost encircles district-free city Munich itself, which is the district seat.

Maffei was a manufacturer of railway locomotives based in Munich, Germany. Established in 1836, it prospered for nearly a century before going bankrupt in 1930 and becoming amalgamated with the firm of Krauss to form Krauss-Maffei. Following another seventy years of prosperity Krauss-Maffei merged with Demag and Mannesmann in 1999, the resulting conglomerate in turn being sold to Siemens AG.
Lake Starnberg — called Lake Würm until 1962 — is Germany's fifth largest freshwater lake in terms of area and, due to its great average depth, the second largest in terms of water volume, after Lake Constance. Bundesautobahn 952 is an autobahn near Munich in southern Germany, connecting Starnberg with the Autobahndreieck Starnberg exchange. In Starnberg, it merges into Bundesstraße 2, which it replaces between Starnberg and the Dreieck Starnberg junction.

The Kochelseebahn branches in Tutzing from the Munich Hauptbahnhof–Garmisch-Partenkirchen main line and runs from there via Penzberg to Kochel am See by the Kochelsee that gives the line its name.
The Munich–Garmisch-Partenkirchen railway is a single track, electrified main line railway in the southern part of the German state of Bavaria. It runs from Munich via Starnberg and Murnau to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The first part of it was opened in 1854 and is one of the oldest lines in Germany.

It was operated by DB Regio Bayern until 15 December 2013 and ran from Munich Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) via Solln to Deisenhofen over the Munich–Holzkirchen railway. Its services have been replaced by services operated by Meridian, a brand of Veolia Verkehr, initially using class 423 four-car electrical multiple units. These services run from Munich to Holzkirchen and continuing via the Mangfall Valley Railway to Rosenheim.
