The Global Battle of the Bands (GBOB) is a live music competition joined by bands from all continents around the world. It is open to amateur/professional bands of all music genres and ages; there are only two main prerequisites to joining: no cover songs and no pre-recorded tracks. All bands must play original compositions and play it live. Every year Local Qualifying Heats and National Finals take place in participating countries around the world. The winners of these go forward to the World Finals. The grand winner of the World Finals will be awarded a USD $100,000.00 worth of cash and band development packages in London, as well as a golden statuette engraved with the words "Best New Band in the World".
Starting in 2004 with 16 countries participating, 25 countries took part in 2006 and participation continues to grow in 2007 to 2010 with a frequent average of over 30 countries involved. [1]
In 2016 the GBOB World Finals were held in Berlin, in club SO36. The winners were Sinoptik from Ukraine, while Hteththtemeth (Romania) got the second place and were "The Most Voted Band of the Finalists". BoW from Poland was on the third place. The Run (Australia) were voted the crowd favourite.
The World Finals were held at the London Astoria from 2004 to 2006. In 2007, the World Finals were held in Camden, London over a three-day period at two different venues. The first two days were held at the Camden Underground, followed by the Finals at the Camden Electric Ballroom on December 6, 2007. The first two days served as a semi-finals. The World Finals 2008 were held at Astoria in London, while the finals in 2009 were held at The Scala, also in London, after Astoria closed down. [2] 2010 was the first time the World Finals were held outside UK - in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. [3] The 2010 World Finals was co-presented and televised nationwide by Astro hitz, a Malaysian Music TV Channel. [4]

Miss World is the oldest existing international beauty pageant. It was created in the United Kingdom by Eric Morley in 1951. Since his death in 2000, Morley's widow, Julia Morley, has co-chaired the pageant. Along with Miss Universe, Miss International, and Miss Earth, it is one of the Big Four international beauty pageants.
KRU is a Malaysian pop boy band formed in 1992. The group comprises three brothers, namely Datuk Norman Abdul Halim, Datuk Yusry Abdul Halim and Edry Abdul Halim'. Iceland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 with the song "Valentine Lost" written by Sveinn Rúnar Sigurðsson and Peter Fenner. The song was performed by Eiríkur Hauksson. Eiríkur Hauksson previously represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 1986 as part of the group ICY and Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 1991 as part of the group Just 4 Fun, placing sixteenth and seventeenth with the songs "Gleðibankinn" and "Mrs. Thompson", respectively. The Icelandic entry for the 2007 contest in Helsinki, Finland was selected through the national final Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2007, organised by the Icelandic broadcaster Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV). The selection consisted of three semi-finals and a final, held on 20 January, 27 January, 3 February and 17 February 2007, respectively. Eight songs competed in each semi-final with the top three as selected by a public televote advancing to the final. In the final, "Ég les í lófa þínum" performed by Eiríkur Hauksson emerged as the winner exclusively through public televoting. The song was later translated from Icelandic to English for the Eurovision Song Contest and was titled "Valentine Lost".
Jaclyn Joshua Thanaraj Victor is a Malaysian singer, songwriter, actress and businesswoman who won the inaugural Malaysian Idol, Ikon Malaysia and Gegar Vaganza Season 9. As the winner of Malaysian Idol, she won a recording contract with Sony BMG Music Entertainment. She represented Malaysia in the first Asian Idol and Ikon Asean. She has been dubbed "Asia's Divette" for her vocal prowess and a legend in Malaysia.

The OGAE Second Chance Contest is a visual event which was founded in 1987 and is organised by branches of OGAE, the international fan club of the Eurovision Song Contest. Four nations competed in the first contest which took place in 1987. The competition was previously a non-televised event, but evolved over the years by the usage of video tape and later DVD, YouTube and streaming services.
Live and Unsigned is a music competition in the United Kingdom for unsigned bands and vocal groups to perform live for substantial prizes. It was founded 2007, and has attracted over 40,000 entrants annually since its inception. Competitors perform in their own genre and style to a paying audience and judging panel. The competition tours the UK holding auditions and finals in various areas and regions, and the Grand National Final is held in London The O2 in London being the last used.

Among the band members was Gunnar Ólason who previously represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2001 as part of the duo Two Tricky, where they placed twenty-second in the competition with the song "Angel". The Icelandic entry for the 2011 contest in Düsseldorf, Germany was selected through the national final Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2011, organised by the Icelandic broadcaster Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV). The selection consisted of three semi-finals and a final, held on 15 January, 22 January, 29 January and 12 February 2011, respectively. Five songs competed in each semi-final with the top two/three as selected by a public televote advancing to the final. In the final, "Aftur heim" performed by Sigurjón's Friends emerged as the winner exclusively through public televoting. The song was later translated from Icelandic to English for the Eurovision Song Contest and was titled "Coming Home", while the band was renamed as Sjonni's Friends.
The 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships were held in Tokyo, Japan, from October 7–16, 2011, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. Due to uncertainty over the nuclear situation following the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, the International Federation of Gymnastics revealed it was considering moving the event, but on May 22 FIG president Bruno Grandi announced that the World Championships would take place in Tokyo as planned.
The swimming competitions at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London took place from 28 July to 4 August at the Aquatics Centre. The open-water competition took place from 9 to 10 August in Hyde Park.
Kopek were an Irish rock band from Dublin, Ireland composed of Daniel Jordan, Brad Kinsella and Eoin Ryan (drums).
October Sky is a Canadian rock band from Montreal, Canada. Formed in 2000, the group currently consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Karl Raymond and drummer Alex Racine. The style of their early music, including their debut album Hell Isn't My Home, has been described as progressive, but they started to add several electronic elements to their sound on subsequent albums. The Aphotic Season was the first step in that new direction but their latest EP Rise marked a major shift in their sound.
Dubtonic Kru are a live reggae band from Jamaica. After earning the title "Best New Band in the World 2010 - 2011" at the Global Battle of the Bands international contest and many other achievements, they performed in Ostróda.

The song was performed by the band Pollapönk. The Icelandic entry for the 2014 contest in Copenhagen, Denmark was selected through the national final Söngvakeppnin 2014, organised by the Icelandic broadcaster Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV). The selection consisted of two semi-finals and a final, held on 1, 8 and 15 February 2014, respectively. Five songs competed in each semi-final with the top two as selected by a public televote alongside two jury wildcards advancing to the final. In the final, the winner was selected over two rounds of voting: the first involved a 50/50 combination of jury voting and public televoting, which reduced the six competing entries to two superfinalists and the second round selected the winner exclusively through public televoting. "No Prejudice" performed by Pollapönk emerged as the winner after gaining the most public votes.
"No Prejudice" is a song by Icelandic band Pollapönk. It was chosen to represent Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Denmark. The song was initially performed in Icelandic as Enga fordóma at the Icelandic national final, but was translated into English for Eurovision. The song was co-written by American musician John Grant.
Blaakyum is a Lebanese metal band from Beirut, founded in 1995 by Bassem Deaibess. Blaakyum's style is a blend of Thrash, heavy and groove metal infused with Middle Eastern and Levantine folk music". To this end, the band incorporates the goblet drum into its music.The band's first studio album, Lord of the Night, was released on Friday the 13th of January 2012. Blaakyum released its second album, Line of Fear, on the 25th of June 2016. The band's last tour started at the Tuska festival, and continued with the "Thrash Mercenaries" Tour 2016, headed by Onslaught.
