Girls artistic gymnastics qualification at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics was held at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre on August 18. The results of the qualification determined the qualifiers to the finals: 18 gymnasts in the all-around final, and 8 gymnasts in each of 4 apparatus finals.

At the 2000 Summer Olympics, three different gymnastics disciplines were contested: artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, and trampoline. The artistic gymnastics and trampoline events were held at the Sydney SuperDome on 16–25 September and 22–23 September, respectively. The rhythmic gymnastics events were held at Pavilion 3 of the Sydney Olympic Park on 28 September – 1 October.
At the 1996 Summer Olympics, two different gymnastics disciplines were contested: artistic gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics. The artistic gymnastics events were held at the Georgia Dome from July 20–25 and July 28–29. The rhythmic gymnastics events were held at Stegeman Coliseum in nearby Athens, on the campus of the University of Georgia from August 1–4.

The Artistic Gymnastics World Cup is a competition series for artistic gymnastics sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). It is one of the few tournaments in artistic gymnastics officially organized by FIG, as well as the World Championships and the gymnastics competitions at the Olympic Games and the Youth Olympics. Beginning in the 2017-2020 quadrennium, the All-Around and Individual Apparatus World Cup series will be used to qualify a maximum of seven spots to the Olympic Games.

The men's artistic individual all-around was a competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom. The event was held at the North Greenwich Arena 1 on 28 July and 1 August 2012. There were 41 competitors from 27 nations, counting only those gymnasts who performed on all six apparati during the qualifying round. The event was won by Kōhei Uchimura of Japan, the nation's first victory in the men's all-around since 1984 and fifth overall. Uchimura was the 14th man to earn multiple all-around medals, adding to his 2008 silver. Germany's Marcel Nguyen earned silver, the first men's all-around medal for a German gymnast since the 1936 Games in Berlin. Danell Leyva of the United States took bronze.
The women's artistic individual all-around competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London was held at the North Greenwich Arena on 2 August.
Jonna Eva-Maj Adlerteg is a Swedish gymnast. She won the bronze medal on bars at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore. Adlerteg qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, becoming the second Swedish gymnast during the 21st century to qualify for the Olympics after Veronica Wagner. Adlerteg took Sweden's first medal in gymnastics in over 50 years when she won the silver medal on the uneven bars at the 2013 Europe Championships

The men's artistic individual all-around event at the 2020 Summer Olympics is scheduled to take place on 24 and 28 July 2021 at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre. Approximately 70 gymnasts from 35 nations are expected to compete in the all-around in the qualifying round.
