He played in MLB for 19 seasons with the Atlanta Braves,Los Angeles Dodgers,San Francisco Giants,and Oakland Athletics. During his Dodgers tenure,he was a two-time All-Star,won two Silver Slugger Awards and a Gold Glove Award,and became the first NLCS MVP,which he received during the 1977 National League Championship Series. He also made three World Series appearances with the Dodgers,and was a member of the 1981 championship team.

The 1986 National League Championship Series was a best-of-seven Major League Baseball postseason series between the NL East champion New York Mets and NL West champion Houston Astros. It was the 18th NLCS and the first MLB playoff series in which the opponents were two "expansion" teams that had begun play in the same season (1962). The series was won by the Mets,four games to two,culminating with their 7–6,16-inning triumph at the Astrodome in Game 6. New York then defeated the Boston Red Sox in the 1986 World Series,four games to three.
Jose Alexander Cora is a Puerto Rican baseball manager and former infielder who is the manager of the Boston Red Sox in Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played in MLB for 14 seasons with the Red Sox,Los Angeles Dodgers,Cleveland Indians,New York Mets,Texas Rangers,and Washington Nationals. After retiring as a player,Cora served as the bench coach for the Houston Astros when they won their first World Series title in 2017. Cora was named Boston's manager the following season,winning a franchise-best 108 games and leading the team to victory in the 2018 World Series. He is the fifth MLB manager to win the World Series in his first season and the first Puerto Rican manager of a World Series-winning team.
Philip Mason Garner is an American former professional baseball player and manager. He played in Major League Baseball as an infielder with the Oakland Athletics,Pittsburgh Pirates,Houston Astros,Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants from 1973 to 1988. With the Pirates,he won the 1979 World Series over the Baltimore Orioles. He was manager of the Astros from July 14,2004 to August 27,2007,leading Houston to a World Series appearance in 2005.

David Michael Trembley is an American professional baseball executive who served as the director of player development of the Atlanta Braves in 2015. Trembley has been the bench coach for the Houston Astros and a manager of the Baltimore Orioles. Before managing the Orioles,Trembley was a minor league manager for twenty seasons,compiling a 1,369–1,413 record. He won two league titles and earned Manager of the Year awards in three leagues. In December 2001,Baseball America selected him as one of minor league baseball's top five managers of the previous 20 years. He served as a coach in the inaugural Futures Game in 1999 and also served as manager for the Southern League and Double-A All-Star Games that season. Trembley has worked for the Baltimore Orioles,Chicago Cubs,Pittsburgh Pirates,San Diego Padres and Atlanta Braves.

Thomas James Funk is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for the Houston Astros during the 1986 season. He appeared in eight games and enjoyed early success before faltering and being sent down to the minors. He would never again pitch in the big leagues. The Astros would go on to win the 1986 National League Western Division title without him.

The Champions made their debut as a member of the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball in 2015. They won their first league championship in 2016 defeating the Rockland Boulders 3-2 after being down 2-0 in the series,winning game 5,3-1 with a complete game win by Austin Chrismon. They played their home games at Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton Park. The Champions mascot was Champ.
