In Major League Baseball,the Manager of the Year Award is an honor given annually since 1983 to two outstanding managers,one each in the American League (AL) and the National League (NL). The winner is voted on by 30 members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA). Each submits a vote for first,second,and third place among the managers of each league.[a] The manager with the highest score in each league wins the award.
Santos Alomar Velázquez,known as Sandy Alomar Jr.,is a Puerto Rican former professional baseball player,coach,and manager. He played in Major League Baseball as a catcher between 1988 and 2007,most notably as a member of the Cleveland Indians where he was a six-time All-Star player and won two American League pennants. Alomar was inducted into the Cleveland Indians Hall of Fame in 2009.
Dale Curtis Sveum is an American former Major League Baseball (MLB) player and manager. He most recently served as the bench coach for the Kansas City Royals. As a player,Sveum saw action in 12 major league seasons between 1986 and 1999. He was a member of the Milwaukee Brewers,Philadelphia Phillies,Chicago White Sox,Oakland Athletics,Seattle Mariners,Pittsburgh Pirates,and New York Yankees. Following his playing career,Sveum managed in minor league baseball for several seasons before becoming an MLB coach. Sveum briefly served as manager of the Brewers in 2008 during his tenure as hitting coach for the team. He was later named manager of the Cubs after the 2011 season and served for two seasons. His cousin is former Blue Jays All-Star John Olerud.
Jose Alexander Cora is a Puerto Rican baseball manager and former infielder who is the manager of the Boston Red Sox in Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played in MLB for 14 seasons with the Red Sox,Los Angeles Dodgers,Cleveland Indians,New York Mets,Texas Rangers,and Washington Nationals. After retiring as a player,Cora served as the bench coach for the Houston Astros when they won their first World Series title in 2017. Cora was named Boston's manager the following season,winning a franchise-best 108 games and leading the team to victory in the 2018 World Series. He is the fifth MLB manager to win the World Series in his first season and the first Puerto Rican manager of a World Series-winning team.

Fredi Jesús González is a Cuban-born American baseball coach and manager who most recently served as the bench coach for the Baltimore Orioles. He managed the Florida Marlins from 2007 to 2010 and the Atlanta Braves from 2011 to 2016. González was fired from both managing positions. For four seasons prior to 2007,he was the third base coach for the Atlanta Braves. Despite never reaching the playoffs with Florida,González nearly led the Braves to a playoff berth in his first season as manager in 2011. He then guided the Braves to the postseason in 2012 and 2013.
Richard Avina Renteria is a Mexican-American former professional baseball infielder and former manager of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB). Renteria played in parts of five seasons between 1986 and 1994 with the Pittsburgh Pirates,Seattle Mariners,and Florida Marlins. He then coached and managed in the Marlins organization until 2001,and in the San Diego Padres organization until 2013. He was the manager of the Chicago Cubs in 2014. Renteria was also the bench coach for the Chicago White Sox in 2016.
David Michael Trembley is an American professional baseball executive who served as the director of player development of the Atlanta Braves in 2015. Trembley has been the bench coach for the Houston Astros and a manager of the Baltimore Orioles. Before managing the Orioles,Trembley was a minor league manager for twenty seasons,compiling a 1,369–1,413 record. He won two league titles and earned Manager of the Year awards in three leagues. In December 2001,Baseball America selected him as one of minor league baseball's top five managers of the previous 20 years. He served as a coach in the inaugural Futures Game in 1999 and also served as manager for the Southern League and Double-A All-Star Games that season. Trembley has worked for the Baltimore Orioles,Chicago Cubs,Pittsburgh Pirates,San Diego Padres and Atlanta Braves.
Marquis Donnell "Bo" Porter is an American former professional baseball player,manager,and coach. He is the current first base coach for the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was a special assistant to the Atlanta Braves general manager and former third base/outfield and base running coach for the Braves. Porter previously served as manager of the Houston Astros for two seasons until his termination on September 1,2014. During spring training in 2018 he ran the Major League Baseball Players Association free agent camp. In 2019,he became a television broadcaster for the Washington Nationals on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network.
Wilbur Donald Wakamatsu is an American former professional baseball player,scout,coach,and manager. Wakamatsu was drafted in the 11th round of the 1985 Major League Baseball draft by the Cincinnati Reds. He played as a catcher in Major League Baseball for the Chicago White Sox. He served as the bench coach of the Texas Rangers from 2018 through 2021. He was hired as bench coach of the Kansas City Royals for the 2014 season. He was the manager of the Seattle Mariners for the 2009 season,as well as the majority of the 2010 season. He was the Toronto Blue Jays' bench coach for 2011 and 2012,after which he was replaced by DeMarlo Hale. During the 2013 season he worked as a scout for the New York Yankees in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He is currently the first-ever executive vice president of baseball operations with the Oakland Ballers.
