Hassan Haji Mohamoud,also known as Hassan Gadhweyneh,is a Somali politician,the longest serving Minister of Education of Somaliland (2003-2010),the Mayor of Berbera (1998-2003), [1] Governor of Sahil region of Somaliland from (1998-2003). He also served as the Deputy-Mayor of Mogadishu from (1975-1991).

Sheikh Hassan Barsame was a Somali cleric and religious scholar. He was best known for having fought against Meneliks invasions during the early 1900's and having led the last major revolt against Italian colonial forces in the Banaadir region during the 1920's.
The Dervish Movement was an armed resistance movement between 1899 and 1920,which was led by the Salihiyya Sufi Muslim poet and militant leader Mohammed Abdullah Hassan,also known as Sayyid Mohamed,who called for independence from the British and Italian colonisers and for the defeat of Ethiopian forces. The Isamusa is a prominent Somali clan which is part of the Isaaq family clan. The Isamusa traditionally consists of coastal people,nomadic pastoralist and merchants. This clan are primarily settled in Somaliland,including Maroodi Jeex,Togdheer,Sahil,Awdal,Djibouti,Yemen,as well as Kenya. Isamusa populations are present in southern Somalia such as Mogadishu.
Ahmed Mohamed Dirie,commonly known as Toorno,is a Somali politician,who served as the Minister of Education and Science of Somaliland from Dec 2019 to Nov 2023 .In November 2023,after the resignation of several cabinet ministers,he was appointed as Minister of Planning,by the president,Muse Bihi Abdi,where he is currently working.

The 2022 Waheen Market fire was a fire that took place in Hargeisa in the self-proclaimed nation of Somaliland on 1 April 2022. While there were no deaths,damages from the fire amounted to around USD $2 billion,or 60% of Somaliland's GDP.
