Heart Lake Secondary School, commonly known as HLSS or Heart Lake, is a public secondary school in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. [1] It is located at the corner of Conestoga Drive and Wexford Road. The school was founded in 1988 and is a part of the Peel District School Board. The school has 1150 students enrolled as of September 2019. The school is named after the nearby Heart Lake Conservation Area.

Murder of Eric Levack

In 2003, grade nine student Eric Levack, 14, was murdered in the wooded area behind the school during lunch break. The perpetrator was classmate Justin Morton, also 14. [2] Morton pleaded guilty to first degree murder and in 2004 was sentenced as an adult to life in prison, [3] with no eligibility of parole for seven years. [2] [4] Morton was the first person in Canada charged with first degree murder under the newly enacted Youth Criminal Justice Act , which came into force on April 1, 2003, the day of the murder. [2] [4] [5] Morton anonymously appeared in the 2007 documentary film In the Shadow of Feeling, which focused on psychopathic personalities, and spoke about the murder. [6] A lilac tree, planted in memory of Levack, stands on the lawn in front of Heart Lake Secondary School. [5]

St. Edmund Campion Catholic Secondary School is a high school in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. The school is operated by the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. As of now there are over 1,800 students enrolled in, and the uniform consists of a navy blue golf shirt, a navy blue golf t-shirt and navy blue pants. Additional uniform pieces include a rugby sweater, a Campion branded sweatshirt and a school sweater. Previously, the uniform consisted of khaki pants but this was altered in 2023.

Aqsa "Axa" Parvez was the victim of a murder in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. During the murder trial, Superior Court Justice Bruce Durno acknowledged the slaying as an honour killing, stating, that he found it "profoundly disturbing that a 16-year-old could be murdered by a father and brother for the purpose of saving family pride, for saving them from what they perceived as family embarrassment". Aqsa's brother, Waqas, had strangled her. Aqsa's death was reported internationally and sparked a debate about the status of women in Islam. The Toronto Star stated that the father's perception of himself being unable to influence his daughter's behavior was a major factor in the death, and that "Media in Toronto and around the world immediately reported and continues to report that Aqsa was killed because she refused to wear the hijab. But it was much more complicated than that."

The Brampton Arts Walk of Fame is an honours system located at the Rose Theatre Brampton, in Ontario, Canada. The first inductions took place in 2014, and include past and present residents of Brampton.

The Bathtub Girls murder took place in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, on January 18, 2003. Two sisters, whose identities along with the victims are protected under Canada's Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) as they were minors at the time of the crime, conspired to murder their alcoholic, neglectful mother and make it appear as if she had accidentally drowned while taking a bath, in order to claim the insurance money. The death was not considered suspicious for almost a year.

Elizabeth Tracy Mae "Bethe" Wettlaufer is a convicted Canadian serial killer and former registered nurse who confessed to murdering eight senior citizens and attempting to murder six others in southwestern Ontario between 2007 and 2016. With a total of 14 victims either killed or injured by her actions, she is described as one of the worst serial killers in Canadian history.
