Heather Claire Roffey (born September 30, 1986) is a Caymanian former swimmer, who specialized in long-distance freestyle and butterfly events. [1] She became one of the first swimmers, and the first female, in history to represent the Cayman Islands in swimming at the Summer Olympics at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, along with Shaune Fraser and Andrew Mackay. [2]
At her first Olympics, Roffey qualified for two swimming events with three days in between. She posted FINA B-standard entry times of 9:01.41 (800 m freestyle) and 2:17.70 (200 m butterfly) from the Ultra Swim Meet in Charlotte, North Carolina. [3] [4] [5] In the 200 m butterfly, Roffey challenged seven other swimmers on the first heat, including 15-year-old Maria Bulakhova of Russia. She cleared a 2:20 barrier to clinch a fifth spot and thirtieth overall in 2:19.34, just nearly two seconds off her entry time. [6] [7] In her second event, 800 m freestyle, Kwon placed twenty-fifth overall on the morning's preliminaries. Swimming again in heat one, she raced to fourth place by a 3.07-second margin behind winner Golda Marcus of El Salvador with a time of 9:02.88. [8] [9]
Roffey is also a member of Bolles School Swim Club in Jacksonville, Florida, and a varsity swimmer for the South Carolina Gamecocks, under her respective coaches Jeff Poppell and Donald Gibb. In 2007, she graduated from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, with a bachelor's degree in accounting.
Tamás Szűcs is a Hungarian former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle events. He is a two-time SEC titleholder in the 50 and 200 m freestyle, and a former member of the swimming team for the South Carolina Gamecocks at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina.
Jelena Petrova is an Estonian former swimmer, who specialized in long-distance freestyle events. She is a 19-time Estonian long-course swimming champion, 11-time short-course swimming champion and a three-time Nordic junior champion.
Petra Zahrl is an Austrian former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and butterfly events. Since 2009, she currently holds four Austrian records in the freestyle and medley relays. She also claimed a bronze medal in the 200 m butterfly (2:09.29) at the 2000 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Valencia, Spain.
Mariya Alekseyevna Bulakhova is a Russian former swimmer, who specialized in butterfly events. She collected two medals, gold and silver, in the 100 (59.98) and 200 m butterfly (2:10.60) at the 2004 European Junior Swimming Championships in Lisbon, Portugal. Bulakhova is a member of Volga Swimming Club, and is coached and trained by Natalia Kozlova.
Hanna Miluska is a Swiss former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle events and open water marathon. She is a two-time medalist in the 5 km open water at the World and European Championships. Miluska is also a member of Beider Basel Swimming Club, and is trained by her long-time coach Axel Mitbauer. She is also the daughter of former rower Ivan Miluška, who played for Czechoslovakia in the men's pairs at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City.
Olena Pavlivna Lapunova is a Ukrainian former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and individual medley events. She is a three-time Olympian, an eighth-place finalist at the European Championships (1997), and a former Ukrainian record holder in the 200 m freestyle and individual medley.
Vesna Stojanovska is a Macedonian former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and butterfly events. She is a two-time Olympian, and holds multiple age-group records in 200 and 400 m freestyle, and in 50, 100, and 200 m butterfly. Regarded as one of Macedonia's top swimmers, Stojanovska has earned All-American honors and numerous Atlantic Coast Conference titles in her own discipline while studying in the United States.
Pilin Tachakittiranan is a Thai former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and butterfly events. She is a two-time Olympian and a multiple-time age-group record holder in all freestyle distances. Regarded as Thailand's top female swimmer, she has won a total of five gold medals at the Southeast Asian Games.
Khadija Ciss is a Senegalese former swimmer, who specialized in long-distance freestyle events. She won a bronze medal in the 200 m freestyle at the 2003 All-Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria (2:09.00).
Rebecca Jane Linton is a New Zealand former swimmer, who specialised in long-distance freestyle events. She held New Zealand records in the 400 and 800 m freestyle, until they were all broken by Lauren Boyle in 2012. Linton is also a member of Howick Pakuranga Swim Club in Auckland.
Ivanka Moralieva is a Bulgarian former swimmer, who specialized in long-distance freestyle events and open water marathon. Since 2001, she holds a Bulgarian record in the 1500 m freestyle from the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan (16:55.53). She also won a bronze medal in the 25 km, as an open water swimmer, at the 2004 European Aquatics Championships in Madrid, Spain (4:41:21.2).
Kwon You-ri is a South Korean swimmer, who specialized in long-distance freestyle and butterfly events. She is a fourth-place finalist in the 200 m butterfly at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar.
Sandy Chan Wing-suet is a Hong Kong former swimmer, who specialized in butterfly events. She is a two-time Olympian and a double finalist at the Asian Games (2002).
Mei Yen “Christel” Bouvron is a Singaporean former swimmer, who specialised in freestyle and butterfly events. She is a two-time Olympian, a double finalist at the Asian Games (2002), and a gold medalist in the 200 m butterfly at the Southeast Asian Games (2003). Bouvron also became the first swimmer to qualify for the Olympics since 1920, while training for the Fighting Irish, and majoring in anthropology and classics at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
Nicole Zahnd is a retired Swiss swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. She was born in Bern. She is a two-time Olympian, and a top 8 finalist in the 200 m freestyle at the 2001 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Antwerp, Belgium. Zahnd played for two swimming clubs in Geneva, before she trained under head coach Dirk Reinecke as part of the Swiss national team. Zahnd is also the wife of former medley swimmer and two-time Olympian Yves Platel.
Nathalie Bernard is a South African-born New Zealand former swimmer, who specialised in freestyle events. She is a single-time Olympian (2004), and a member of North Shore Swim Club in Auckland, under head coach Thomas Ansorg.
Haike Eva van Stralen is a Dutch former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle events. She is a two-time Olympian, and double Dutch short-course champion in the 200 and 400 m freestyle. Van Stralen also played for De Kempvis Swimming Club in Spijkenisse, under her personal coach Dick Bergsma.
Evangelia Tsagka is a Greek former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle events. She is a single-time Olympian (2004), and a silver medalist in the freestyle relay at the 2001 Mediterranean Games in Tunis, Tunisia (8:16.14).
Georgia Manoli is a Greek former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle events. She is a single-time Olympian (2004), and a member of Olympiakos Athina. Manoli qualified for the women's 4×200 m freestyle relay, as a member of the host nation's team, at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Teaming with Zoi Dimoschaki, Marianna Lymperta, and Evangelia Tsagka in heat one, Manoli posted a split of 2:05.66 to anchor the last 50 metres of the race. She and her fellow Greeks rounded out an eight-team field to last place and fifteenth overall in a final time of 8:16.69.
Kathryn Eileen Grimes is an American competitive swimmer. At the 2022 World Aquatics Championships, she won silver medals in the 1500 meter freestyle and the 400 meter individual medley. She placed fourth in the 800 meter freestyle at the 2020 Summer Olympics, where she was the youngest member of the US Olympic Team at 15 years of age.
