The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is a department of the United Nations Secretariat that works to promote and protect human rights that are guaranteed under international law and stipulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948. The office was established by the United Nations General Assembly on 20 December 1993 in the wake of the 1993 World Conference on Human Rights.
The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is a United Nations body whose mission is to promote and protect human rights around the world. Catalina Devandas Aguilar is a Costa Rican lawyer who served as the first United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities from 2014 until 2020. She currently serves as Permanent Representative of Costa Rica to the United Nations at Geneva. Previously,she worked for the World Bank and took part in the establishment of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities with the United Nations Secretariat. She has spina bifida and uses a wheelchair.
Approximately 12 million French citizens are affected by disability. The history of disability activism in France dates back to the French Revolution when the national obligation to help disabled citizens was recognized,but it was "unclear whether or not such assistance should be public or private." Disabled civilians began to form the first associations to demand equal rights and integration in the workforce after the First World War. Between 1940 and 1945,45,000 people with intellectual disabilities died from neglect in French psychiatric asylums. After the Second World War,parents of disabled children and charities created specialized institutions for disabled children for whom school was not accessible. In 2018,the French Government began to roll out a disability policy which aimed to increase the allowance for disabled adults to €900 per month,improve the digital accessibility of public services,and develop easy-to-read and understand language among other goals.
Clément Nyaletsossi Voule is a Togolese diplomat and jurist. Voule served as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Rights to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and of Association from 2018 to 2024. Prior to this,Voule served as African Advocacy Director International Service for Human Rights (ISHR).
Francesca P. Albanese is an Italian international lawyer and academic. On 1 May 2022,she was appointed United Nations Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories for a three-year term. She is the first woman to hold the position.

(Hilda) Beatriz Miranda-Galarza is an Ecuadorian researcher and the Special Rapporteur on the elimination of discrimination against persons affected by leprosy from 2023.
