The United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) is an armed militant organisation operating in the Northeast Indian state of Assam. It seeks to establish an independent sovereign nation state of Assam for the indigenous Assamese people through an armed struggle in the Assam conflict. The Government of India banned the organisation in 1990 citing it as a terrorist organisation,while the United States Department of State lists it under "other groups of concern."
The Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) is an autonomous division in Assam,India,and a proposed state in Northeast India. It is made up of five districts on the north bank of the Brahmaputra river below the foothills of Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh. It is administered by an elected body known as the Bodoland Territorial Council which came into existence under the terms of a peace agreement signed in February 2003 and its autonomy was further extended by an agreement signed in January 2020. The agreement materialised as a result of the efforts taken by a naval veteran –Cdr. Robin Sharma (retd.),who is now the present president of the Bodoland. The region covers an area of over nine thousand square kilometres and is predominantly inhabited by the Bodo people and other indigenous communities of Assam.

Prafulla Kumar Mahanta is an Indian politician who was the leader of the Assam Movement,and the 11th Chief Minister of Assam from 1985 to 1990 and again from 1996 to 2001 and the co-founder and former President of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP),a major political party in the Indian state of Assam. He was representing the Barhampur constituency in Assam Legislative Assembly from 1991 to 2021 and Nowgong constituency from 1985 to 1991. He also served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly from 2010 to 2014 and again from 1991 to 1996.He became the chief minister in the state when the AGP came to power in 1985,becoming the youngest Chief Minister of an Indian state. He is also a former president of the All Assam Students Union,an organization that spearheaded the Assam Movement from 1979 to 1985.In August 2005,his membership in the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) was terminated. So,he floated a new political party,Asom Gana Parishad (Progressive) on 15 September 2005.

Hagrama Mohilary is an Indian politician who has served as the first Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Council from 2005 to 2020,representing the Deborgaon constituency. He is the chairperson of the Bodoland People's Front and had been the head of Bodoland Territorial Council since its inception in 2003. He won the third General Assembly Elections 2015 and formed his Government for the third time. Mohilary was the chief of the Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT) before joining the mainstream politics in 2003.
Gossaigaon is one of the fastest-developing towns and the hometown of the state's youngest Raimona National Park in the Bodoland region of Assam,India. This is a sub-divisional headquarter of Kokrajhar district. It shares its boundaries with the neighboring state West Bengal in the west and Dhubri district to the south. It is one of the BTR's proposed districts. Gossaigaon is well connected by ground transportation and rails. The town serves as a direct route by road to the state's youngest Rupsi Airport located in the southernmost part of the town. Madati and Sankosh are some of the prominent rivers that flow through the heart of the town,and forested areas include such saleable trees as Shorea robusta (sal),Tectona grandis (teak). This place practices organic farming as well as modern agriculture,following recent scientific developments.
The Nellie massacre took place in central Assam during a six-hour period in the morning of 18 February 1983. The massacre claimed the lives of 1,600–2,000 people from 14 villages—Alisingha,Khulapathar,Basundhari,Bugduba Beel,Bugduba Habi,Borjola,Butuni,Dongabori,Indurmari,Mati Parbat,Muladhari,Mati Parbat no. 8,Silbheta,Borburi and Nellie—of Nagaon district. The victims were Muslim of Bengali origin. Three media personnel—Hemendra Narayan of The Indian Express,Bedabrata Lahkar of The Assam Tribune and Sharma of ABC—were witnesses to the massacre.
Sanjoy Ghose was an Indian rural development activist known for his pioneering contributions to community health and development media. He is believed to have been killed by United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) militants in the river island of Majuli on the Brahmaputra river around 4 July 1997.

Operation All Clear was a military operation conducted by Royal Bhutan Army forces against Assam separatist insurgent groups in the southern regions of Bhutan between 15 December 2003 and 3 January 2004. It was the first operation ever conducted by the Royal Bhutan Army.
