Helensburgh Football Club was a Scottish football club based in Helensburgh. They were members of the Scottish Football League Third Division between 1923 and 1926.
The first club of the name first appeared in 1874 but it disappeared in 1882; Helensburgh Victoria, founded in 1880, were renamed Helensburgh FC on 31st July 1885 but had disbanded by the end of the season. A third incarnation was born in 1896 and eventually took up residence at the town's Ardencaple Park.
Helensburgh eventually joined the Western League, which was incorporated by the Scottish Football League as its new Third Division for the 1923–24 season. Helensburgh competed in each of the Division's three seasons, [1] finishing fifteenth in 1923–24, seventh in 1924–25 and first in 1925–26, although no championship was awarded because Helensburgh were the only club to complete their fixtures. [2] In a normal year Helensburgh may have gained promotion to the Second Division, but the club's application for election to the League was unsuccessful. [3] A brief stopover in the Scottish Football Alliance preceded their demise in 1928.
The club originally played in navy shirts and white shorts, changing in 1907 to red shirts with navy shorts and socks. Apart from a brief change to red and white stripes in 1910, these remained the club's colours for the rest of its existence. [4]
The Scottish Football League (SFL) was a league featuring professional and semi-professional football clubs mostly from Scotland. From its foundation in 1890 until the breakaway Scottish Premier League (SPL) was formed in 1998, the SFL was the top level of football in Scotland. After 1998, the SFL represented levels 2 to 4 of the Scottish football league system. In June 2013, the SFL merged with the SPL to form the Scottish Professional Football League.
St Bernard's Football Club were a football club based in Edinburgh, Scotland. The club was established in 1878 and joined the Scottish Football League. Their biggest success came in winning the 1894–95 Scottish Cup. They played at several different grounds before making the Royal Gymnasium Ground their long-term home. However, after having to sell it in 1943, the club was dissolved.
Abercorn Football Club was a football club based in Paisley, Scotland. The club were members of the Scottish Football League from 1890 until 1915 and folded in 1920. Abercorn were founder members of the Scottish Football League, but eventually could not compete with local rivals St Mirren. During their time in the SFL the club played at Underwood Park, Old Ralston Park and New Ralston Park. Their colours were blue and white stripes.
Clackmannan Football Club was a football club based in Clackmannan, Scotland. They were members of the Scottish Football League in two spells, both during the 1920s, and played at Chapelhill Park. Players wore blue and white hoops.
Port Glasgow Athletic was a football club based in Port Glasgow, Scotland. The club was formed in 1878 and originally named Broadfield before changing their name in 1881. They played in the Scottish Football League between 1893 and 1911, and were based at Clune Park.
The Scottish Football Alliance was a football league football structure set up in Scotland in competition with the Scottish Football League. Its success in the early years of professional football in both England and Scotland made Alliance the basis for a second division in both countries. The alliance attracted a number of Junior clubs to the League system to guarantee its longevity for years to come.
Ayr Football Club was a Scottish Football League club from Ayr, Scotland. They were formed in 1879 by a merger of the Ayr Thistle and Ayr Academicals football clubs. Their initial home ground was Springvale Park, which they left in 1884 to play home fixtures at Beresford Park, which they in turn left in 1888 to move to Somerset Park. Ayr won their first ever game at Somerset Park 3–0 against Aston Villa.

The club was briefly a member of the Scottish Football League (SFL), playing in Division Two during the 1894–95 season, but after finishing second from bottom of the league they failed re-election. In December 1894 the suffered an all-time record SFL defeat, losing 15–1 to Airdrieonians. Their home ground was Clepington Park.
