Hemanth Subramanya known by his stage name as Hemanth, is a playback singer in Kannada cinema. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Early life

Hemanth was born in a family of musicians at Bangalore, India. His mother Rathna Sastry is a classical singer and his father Subramanya Sastry is a retired economics professor. He considers his mother as his first Guru. [1]

Hemanth practised Carnatic classical music under R. K. Srikantan and his son R. S. Ramakanth, Nagavalli Nagaraj and H. K. Narayana for about a decade. [1]

Career

Hemanth started his film career as a music assistant to music director Hamsalekha, who also introduced him to the Kannada cinema. [1] His foray into the film world was made in 2000 for the blockbuster movie Preethse. [5] [6] Hemanth replaced Udit Narayan in his debut song "Preetse Preetse" of movie Preethse composed by his mentor Hamsalekha. [5] [7]

Hemanth became a popular and prominent playback singer in Kannada cinema since his debut hit song "Preetse Preetse". [2] [4] [6] [8] [9] Hemanth rendered his voice to many actors including Shiva Rajkumar, Puneeth Rajkumar, Upendra, Ganesh, Sudeep, Srinagar Kitty, Darshan, Yash to name a few. He has sung songs in composition of Hamsalekha, [10] V. Manohar, Gurukiran, [8] Mano Murthy, Arjun Janya, V. Sridhar, [11] V. Harikrishna, Sadhu Kokila, Ricky Kej to name a few.

He has hosted and performed for TV musical shows in leading Kannada channels. “Kuhu Kuhu" for Udaya TV, “Gunagaana", "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa” and "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa little champs" for Zee Kannada TV to name a few. [1] [12] [13] He has performed live worldwide, including at Muskat for the show “Gana Lahiri” organized by Kannada Sangha in 2008, at Dubai in 2012. Other live shows at Bahrain in 2013, at Nairobi during "Karunada Habba" Feb 2018. [1] [3]

Hemanth has also sung song in music albums "Life is Beautiful" and "Baa Sangaati" composed by Techies4Kannada and orchestral music from the Czech Republic. [11] [14] [15] [16] He is also featured in "Nee Badalaadare" music album composed by Ricky Kej which has patriotic songs in Kannada. [17]

Singanalluru Puttaswamaiah Muthuraj, better known by his stage name Dr. Rajkumar, was an Indian actor and singer who worked in Kannada cinema. Regarded as one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema and a versatile actor, he is considered a cultural icon and holds a matinée idol status in the Kannada diaspora, among whom he is popularly called as Nata Saarvabhouma, Bangarada Manushya, Vara Nata, Gaana Gandharva, Rasikara Raja, Kannada Kanteerava and Rajanna/Annavru. Sampath Kumar, known by his stage name Vishnuvardhan, was an Indian actor who worked predominantly in Kannada cinema besides also having sporadically appeared in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam language films. Vishnuvardhan has a prolific career spanning over four decades, during which he has acted in more than 220 films. A popular cultural icon of Karnataka, and holds the status of a matinée idol amongst the Kannada diaspora. He is popularly called as Sahasa Simha, Dada and The Angry Young Man of Kannada Cinema. Vishnuvardhan's contributions to Kannada cinema have been praised by his contemporaries in the Indian film industry. The Government of Karnataka honoured him with the Rajyothsava Prashasthi in 1990 and the Dr. Rajkumar Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007 for his contributions to Kannada cinema. He was called The Phoenix of Indian Cinema. In 2008, a poll conducted by CNN-IBN listed Vishnuvardhan as the most popular star in the Kannada film industry.

Bedara Kannappa is a 1954 Indian Kannada-language Hindu mythological film directed by H. L. N. Simha and written by G. V. Iyer. The film stars Rajkumar playing the title character along with Pandari Bai, Kushala Kumari, G. V. Iyer, Sandhya and Narasimharaju in other prominent roles. The film is an adaptation of a stage play by the Gubbi Veeranna Nataka Company, which was based on the folk tale of the hunter Kannappa who proves his extreme devotion to the Hindu God Shiva by gouging out both his eyes.

Gangaraju, professionally known as Hamsalekha, is an Indian film composer and songwriter who works in South Indian cinema, predominantly in the Kannada film industry since the late 1980s. Through his over five-decade long career of over 200 films, he was regarded one of the most pivotal and influential figures of the Kannada film industry. His films were praised for acting as a bridge between the popular and art films because of the theme of the story and their treatment. He debuted as a child actor in the 1942 Kannada film Bhakta Prahlada. His first role as an adult came in Sri Srinivasa Kalyana (1952) and as a lead, two years later, in Bedara Kannappa, which gave him stardom. He debuted as a singer with the track Om Namaha Shivaya from the 1956 film Ohileshwara. In 1960, he made his debut as a producer by producing Ranadheera Kanteerava. According to Ashish Rajadhyaksha and Paul Willemen in the book Encyclopedia of Indian Cinema, Ranadheera Kanteerava was the first "big hit" in Kannada cinema. J Anoop Seelin is an Indian film music director and playback singer who works in the Kannada film industry. He has scored music for films including Gooli, Eddelu Manjunatha, I Am Sorry Mathe Banni Preethsona,Sidlingu, Parari, Madarangi, Naanu Avanalla...Avalu and Aatagara. He won the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Music Director for his Sidlingu work.

Nanditha is an Indian singer. Best known as a playback singer in the Kannada film industry, she sings in other languages such as Tamil and Telugu. Nanditha began her playback career from the film Habba (1998). Since then, she has won numerous awards including the Karnataka State Film Awards and Filmfare Awards South for her singing.

V. Harikrishna is an Indian film score and soundtrack composer, playback singer and film producer. He has mainly scored music for Kannada films. After his stint as a programmer and assistant musician, Harikrishna made his debut as an independent composer in actor Darshan's first production venture Jothe Jotheyali in 2006. Since then, he has been scoring for majority of Darshan's films besides working for many other leading production houses. He owns an audio company called "D-Beats" established in 2013 and produces music under his own company starting from the film Bulbul (2013). He has turned into a director with the 2019 Kannada film 'Yajamana'.

Karnataka State Film Awards are the most notable and prestigious film awards given for Kannada film industry in Karnataka, India. These are considered the highest awards for Kannada language films. They are given annually by the Government of Karnataka to honor the best talent and to provide encouragement and incentive to the Kannada film industry.

The film major part was shot in Australia as well. The film is a remake of the 1993 Bollywood film Darr. The film was dubbed in Telugu as Sadist. Preethse was the second highest grossing Kannada film of the year 2000 behind Vishnuvardhan's Yajamana. It ran for 25 weeks and became Upendra's third consecutive blockbuster after A and Upendra.
