Hertella is a lichenized genus of fungi within the Placynthiaceae family. [1]
The genus name of Hertella is in honour of Hannes Hertel (b.1939), a German botanist (Mycology, Lichenology and Bryology), Taxonomist, Curator of Lichenes/Bryophytes and former Director of the Botanische Staatssammlung München. [2]
The genus was circumscribed by Aino Marjatta Henssen in Mycotaxon vol.22 on page 381 in 1985.
Gustav Lindau, was a German mycologist and botanist.
Trentepohlia is a genus of filamentous chlorophyte green algae in the family Trentepohliaceae, living free on terrestrial supports such as tree trunks and wet rocks or symbiotically in lichens. The filaments of Trentepohlia have a strong orange colour caused by the presence of large quantities of carotenoid pigments which mask the green of the chlorophyll.
The Lichinaceae are a family of ascomycete fungi. Most species are lichenized with cyanobacteria, and have a distribution largely in temperate regions.
Ainoa is a genus of lichens in the family Baeomycetaceae. The genus contains two species: A. mooreana, and the type, A. geochroa. The genus was circumscribed in 2001 by H. Thorsten Lumbsch and Imke Schmitt to contain the two species, which were formerly placed in genus Trapelia. A third species, Ainoa bella from eastern North America, was added to the genus in 2015.
Herteliana is a genus of lichenized fungi in the family Ramalinaceae.
Heppsora is a genus of lichenized fungi in the family Ramalinaceae.
Speerschneidera is a single-species genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Leprocaulaceae. The genus was circumscribed by Italian botanist Vittore Benedetto Antonio Trevisan de Saint-Léon in 1861, with Speerschneidera euploca as the type species. This lichen was originally described by Edward Tuckerman in 1858 as Physcia euploca. It is a crustose lichen found in the southern United States and Mexico.
Santessoniella is a genus of lichenized fungi in the family Pannariaceae. The classification reflects various changes made based on the Systema Ascomycetum and Myconet in the Deep Hypha issue of Mycologia.
Degelia is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Pannariaceae. The genus is named after Swedish lichenologist Gunnar Degelius.
Stirtonia is a genus of lichenized fungi in the family Arthoniaceae. It has at least 21 species.
Gorgadesia is a genus of lichenized fungi in the family Roccellaceae. A monotypic genus, it contains the single species Gorgadesia mira.
Stromatella bermudana is a saxicolous (rock-dwelling) crustose lichen. It is the only species in Stromatella, a monotypic fungal genus in the family Lichinaceae. The genus was circumscribed in 1989 by German lichenologist Aino Henssen. This species was originally described as Psorotichia bermudana by US botanist Lincoln Ware Riddle in 1916, from specimens collected in Bermuda.
Zahlbrucknerella is a genus of filamentous, rock-dwelling lichens in the family Lichinaceae.
Aino Marjatta Henssen, was a German lichenologist and systematist. Her father, Gottfried Henssen, was a folklorist and her mother was Finnish.
FriedrichWilhelm Zopf was a well-known German botanist and mycologist. He dedicated to his whole life with fungal biology, particularly in classification of fungi and dye production in fungi and lichens. Besides, his textbook on fungi called “Die pilze in morphologischer, physiologischer, biologischer und systematischer beziehung ” in 1890 was also an outstanding work on the subject for many decades. The unicellular achlorophic microalgae Prototheca zopfii is named after him because of his profound suggestions and contributions to Krüger's pioneering work in Prototheca. Thus, his numerous contributions gave him a special status in mycological history.
Karl von Keissler was an Austrian lichenologist and mycologist.
Gustaf Oskar Andersson Malme was a Swedish botanist.
Christian Stenhammar (1783-1866) was a Swedish naturalist interested in lichens and an entomologist who specialised in Diptera. His collection is held by Uppsala University. He was a clergyman.
Helge Thorsten Lumbsch is a German-born lichenologist living in the United States. His research interests include the phylogeny, taxonomy, and phylogeography of lichen-forming fungi; lichen diversity; lichen chemistry and chemotaxonomy. He is the Associate Curator and Head of Cryptogams and Chair of the Department of Botany at the Field Museum of Natural History.
Massalongia is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Massalongiaceae. It has four species. The genus was circumscribed by German lichenologist Gustav Wilhelm Körber in 1855, with M. carnosa assigned as the type species.
