The Hlaing-Myat-Paw GCBA was a political party in Burma led by Chit Hlaing. [1]

History

One of several parties originating from the General Council of Burmese Associations, the Hlaing-Myat-Paw GCBA was a merger of the factions led by Chit Hlaing and U Su. [2] The party contested the 1936 general elections, with opposition to the new constitution as its only policy. [3] It won 12 seats in the House of Representatives, and was included in the coalition government formed by Ba Maw; Chit Hlaing became Speaker of the House and party member U Paw Tun was appointed to the cabinet. [3]

Thu Maung

Thu Maung was a Myanmar Academy Award-winning film actor, singer as well as a distinguished writer and director. Throughout his film career, Thu Maung acted in over 40 films. He was born in Rangoon, Burma to parents U Thadu, a well-known author and director, and Daw Khin Nyo. Thu Maung was educated at St. Paul's High School. In 1966, he was admitted into the Government Technical High School, where he subsequently obtained a diploma in diesel engineering in 1969. During this period, he began writing poems and short stories for the Yuwadi Journal. In 1970, he published his first short story, Thanakha Yay Kye Kye (သနပ်ခါးရေကျဲကျဲ) under the pen name Oke Soe in the Wut Hmone Journal.

Ba Nyan Burmese painter

Ba Nyan was a Burmese painter who has been called the greatest name in modern painting in Myanmar. His oil paintings were quiet and academic in their style, but display occasional flashes of virtuosity and brilliance in bold, impasto brushstroke and skillful handling of the medium.

1936 Burmese general election

General elections were held in Burma on 26 November 1936. The Government of Burma Act 1935 separated Burma from British India as of 1 April 1937, and created a 36-seat Senate and a 132-seat House of Representatives. The pro-constitution United GCBA of U Ba Pe emerged as the largest bloc in the House of Representatives, winning 46 seats. However, few parties were willing to work with U Ba Pe, and the Governor invited Ba Maw to form a government, despite his Poor Man's Party winning only 16 seats. Maw became Chief Minister after forming a coalition with Chit Hlaing and other "moderate extremists".

1932 Burmese general election

General elections were held in Burma on 9 November 1932, having originally been planned for 29 October. The election was held almost solely on the issue of whether Burma should separate from India, as the British government had indicated that it would take the outcome of the elections as an indication of Burmese opinion. Prior to the elections many of the major parties joined either the Anti-Separation League or the Separation League.

The Sayawun Tin Shwe Literary Award has been presented annually since November 2002 under the patronage of the Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association (MWJA). Non-fiction books published in the previous year are eligible. The awards are named after the writer Sayawun Tin Shwe. The awards complement the government's National Literary Awards and Sarpay Beikman Manuscript Awards and the Pakokku U Ohn Pe literary award, Thuta Swesone literary award and Tun Foundation award.

Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards

The Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards are presented annually to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Burmese Film Industry of Myanmar. The awards ceremony has been held annually since 1952. Each winner is presented with a golden statue and in recent years also a cash prize.

Nwet Nwet Mu was a Burmese actress. She won Best Actress Award in 1974 Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards. She was famous from the 1970s until her death.
