Huangzhou (simplified Chinese :晃州镇; traditional Chinese :晃州鎮; pinyin :Huǎngzhōu Zhèn) is an urban town and the county seat of Xinhuang Dong Autonomous County in Hunan, China. As of the 2015 census it had a population of 75,600 and an area of 203.17-square-kilometre (78.44 sq mi). The seat of local government is at Dadongping Village (大洞坪村). [1]
The town is located in the northwest of the county, it was reformed to merge Xinlong Town (兴隆镇), Fangjiatun Township (方家屯乡), Dawanluo Township (大湾罗乡) and the Huangzhou Town on November 19, 2015. The seat of local government is at Dadongping Village (大洞坪村). [1]
As of 2015, the town is divided into seven communities and 56 villages. [2]
The Wushui River (潕水) winds through the town. [3]
There are two reservoirs in the town, namely the Yangjia'ao Reservoir (杨家坳水库) and Banxi Reservoir (半溪水库). [3]
There are a number of popular mountains located immediately adjacent to the townsite which include Mount Lengfengpo (冷风坡; 663-metre (2,175 ft)); Mount Wanbao (万宝山; 636-metre (2,087 ft)); and Mount Gunmapo (滚马坡; 916.7-metre (3,008 ft)). [3]
The local economy is primarily based upon agriculture and local industry.
The town is connected to three highways: the G60 Shanghai–Kunming Expressway and National Highway G320, both head east to Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County and west to Yuping Dong Autonomous County. [4] And the Provincial Highway S232 passes across the town north to south. [4]
The Shanghai–Kunming high-speed railway is a high-speed railway passes across the town northeast to southwest. [4]
The Kam language, also known as Gam, or in Chinese, Dong or Tung-Chia, is a Kam–Sui language spoken by the Dong people. Ethnologue distinguishes three Kam varieties as separate but closely related languages.
Xinhuang Dong Autonomous County is an autonomous county of Dong people and the westernmost county of Hunan Province, China, it is under the administration of the prefecture-level city of Huaihua.
Cao Miao is a variety of Dong (Kam) according to Shi Lin (2012). Dialects include Liushi ("Sixty") Miao 六十苗, Sishi ("Forty") Miao 四十苗, and Ershi ("Twenty") Miao 二十苗. The Flowery Miao 花苗 do not consider themselves to be Cao Miao 草苗, although their language is similar to Sixty Miao and Forty Miao.
Batang is a rural town in Ningxiang City, Hunan Province, China. Gantang is a rural town in Jingzhou Miao and Dong Autonomous County, Hunan, China. As of the 2017 census it had a population of 24,000 and an area of 134.6-square-kilometre (52.0 sq mi). Miao and Dong people account for 86.7% of the total population in the town. It has the reputation of "granary" and "fruit town" in Jingzhou County. It is surrounded by Shaxi Township on the north, Taiyangping Township on the west, Wenxi Township on the east, and Quyang Town on the south.

It is approximately 22-kilometre (14 mi) northeast of the downtown Xinhaung Dong Autonomous County and 10-kilometre (6.2 mi) southwest of the downtown Yuping Dong Autonomous County. It borders Zhujiachang Town of Yuping County in the north, Fuluo Town in the southeast, Yushi Town in the northeast, and Liangsan Town in the west and southwest.

As of the 2015 census it had a population of 10,929 and an area of 82.6-square-kilometre (31.9 sq mi). Miao and Dong people accounted for 48.5% and 44.5% of the total population respectively. It borders Bozhou Town in the northwest, Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County in the northeast and east, Mibei Miao Ethnic Township in the south, Zhongzhai Town in the southwest, and Hetan Town in the west.
Mibei Miao Ethnic Township is a rural township in Xinhuang Dong Autonomous County, Hunan, China. As of the 2015 census it had a population of 14,571 and an area of 101-square-kilometre (39 sq mi). It is surrounded by Butouxiang Miao Ethnic Township on the north, Biyong Town of Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County on the west, Zhongzhai Town on the east, and Wengdong Town of Tianzhu County on the south.
The Huangzhou Wind-rain Bridge is a beam bridge over the Wu River in the town of Huangzhou, Xinhuang Dong Autonomous County, Hunan, China. Completed on January 26, 2014, it has a main span of 240-metre (790 ft) and total length of 220-metre (720 ft).
