Humayun Saeed (born 27 July 1971) is a Pakistani actor and producer. [1] Primarily known for his work on Pakistani television and cinema as an actor, he is the recipient of several accolades including Lux Style Awards, and ARY Film Awards. [2] Saeed also runs the Six Sigma Plus media production house which produces television drama serials and commercial movies.

Early life and family

Saeed was born on 27 July 1971 in Karachi into a Punjabi family. [3]

He earned a bachelor's degree in commerce from St. Patrick's College, Karachi and before entering the entertainment industry he used to work as a general manager at a garment factory. [4]

Saeed has four younger brothers, with Salman Saeed also being an actor. [5]

Career

Early career

Saeed began his career as a television producer in the early 90s. After stepping into showbiz, Saeed's was cast in the TV shows for acting roles. He made his acting debut in 1995 with Karoron Ka Aadmi produced by Nadeem A Khan. [6] [7]

Saeed continued doing TV productions. He partnered with Sultana Siddiqui in the late 90s and then Abdullah Kadwani in 2000s for 7th Sky Entertainment. Later, he started his own production house along with "Shehzad Nasib" under the banner "Six Sigma Plus". Since then he has produced content for Pakistani television viewers. [8] [9]

Saeed's initial TV work as an actor includes Mehndi , Doraha , Kabhi Kabhi Pyar Mein, Kaafir , Uraan , Hum Se Juda Na Hona, Ladies Park and guest roles in Meri Zaat Zarra-e-Benishan and Daam . In 2005, Saeed starred in the music video Iss Baar Milo. [10] [11] [12]

In January, 2022, Saeed was cast as Dr. Hasnat Khan (known for his romantic involvement with Princess Diana), in the fifth season of The Crown. [13]

Films

Saeed made his film debut in 1999 with Samina Peerzada's movie Inteha . He portrayed the negative role in Inteha and went on to receive the National Award – Best Actor – for his role in his first film. [14] [15] Due to poor conditions of Pakistan Film Industry at that time, he did only limited number of movies until the revival of cinema began in 2013. He has done many movies since the resurgence of cinema in 2013. These include films such as Main Hoon Shahid Afridi, Bin Roye , [16] Jawani Phir Nahi Ani and Punjab Nahi Jaungi. In 2018, he starred in film Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 . [17] In 2022, he appeared in Nadeem Baig's London Nahi Jaunga. [18]

Awards

Saeed has received numerous award nominations and honours including a minimum of 5 Lux Style Awards. He received special recognition awards at Pakistan Achievement Awards 2015 UK and Europe [19] and at fourth Hum Awards in 2016 for his invaluable contribution towards revival of Pakistani cinema. [20] [21] Saeed's film Jawani Phir Nahi Ani swept the ARY Film Awards ceremony with total of 17 awards, also earning him the award for the best male actor in a leading role. [2] He was awarded the Pride of Performance by the President of Pakistan on 23 March 2021. [22]

While Mai Hoon Shahid Afridi was an average success, Jawani phir Nahe ani went on to become the highest grossing film of Pakistan cinema and broke all the previous Box office records while earning more than 490 million at the box office. He also wrote Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2, which was released on 2018 Eid al-Adha and broke the all time biggest box office grosses record.It also went on to become the First Pakistani film to make 700 Million rupees worldwide. Chaudhry is also known for hosting the comedy show, Mazaaq Raat, on Dunya News since 2015.

Jawani Phir Nahi Ani, sometimes abbreviated as JPNA is a 2015 Pakistani adventure comedy film directed by Nadeem Baig. It was co-produced by Humayun Saeed, Salman Iqbal and Shahzad Nasib at Saeed's production house, Six Sigma Plus. It is the first installment in the Jawani Phir Nahi Ani film series. The film stars Humayun Saeed, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Ahmad Ali Butt, Vasay Chaudhry and Mehwish Hayat. The supporting cast includes Sohai Ali Abro, Jawed Sheikh, Ismail Tara, Bushra Ansari, Ayesha Khan, Sarwat Gillani and Uzma Khan. The film is about a single man who is a divorce lawyer. He takes his three married friends on a trip to help them escape their wives and the monotony of their lives.

The 2nd ARY Film Awards or AFA'16 ceremony, presented by the ARY Digital Network and Entertainment Channel, sponsored by Tang and L'Oréal, honored the best Pakistani films of 2015 and took place on 16 April 2016, at the Madinat Jumeirah, in Dubai, UAE, beginning at 7:30 UAE Standard Time. Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2, sometimes abbreviated as JPNA 2, is a 2018 Pakistani Urdu-language romantic comedy film, directed by Nadeem Baig and written by Vasay Chaudhry. It is a joint venture of Salman Iqbal Films, Humayun Saeed and Shahzad Nasib's Six Sigma Plus, and Jerjees Seja's ARY Films. It is sequel to the 2015 film Jawani Phir Nahi Ani, and the second installment in Jawani Phir Nahi Ani film series. Punjab Nahi Jaungi, is a 2017 Pakistani romantic comedy film directed by Nadeem Baig and written by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar. It stars Humayun Saeed and Mehwish Hayat alongside Sohail Ahmed, Saba Hameed ,and Urwa Hocane in pivotal roles. The story is about a love triangle between the lead characters, and also exhibits the Punjabi culture of Pakistan. A spin-off, titled London Nahi Jaunga, was released to mixed reviews in 2022.
