The BCC Iccrea Group, known formerly as Istituto Centrale delle Casse Rurali ed Artigiane, is one of the major Italian cooperative banking group and a key institution of Italian credit unions and rural savings banks. The group is made of 114 meber Cooperative Credit Banks (BCCs).
Following the 1994 Consolidated Banking Act, the former rural and artisan banks reorganised into Cooperative Credit Banks (BCCs) and formed the Iccrea Banking Group. Created in 1995, the holding company of the group was ICCREA Holding, while ICCREA Banca, ICCREA BancaImpresa, and several other companies were subsidiaries. The capital of ICCREA Holding was owned by the Cooperative Credit Banks.
ICCREA has been designated as a significant institution since the entry into force of European Banking Supervision in late 2014, and as a consequence is directly supervised by the European Central Bank. [3] [4]
In 2016, the Italian Cooperative Credit Reform forced the BCCs to join a Cooperative Banking Group and consequently, a reverse merger between Iccrea Banca and ICCREA Holding took place, thus creating the BCC Iccrea Group (also known as the Iccrea Cooperative Banking Group).
The share capital was represented by 21,954,905 ordinary shares with a par value of €51.65 each with a total value of €1,133,970,843.55 [6]
