I Don't Know received a score of 82 out of 100 on review aggregator Metacritic based on eight critics' reviews, indicating "universal acclaim". [2] Uncut felt that the band "have expanded their sound, retaining that youthful energy and combining it with ambition and impressive marshalling of dynamics that creates a strangely serene album", while Mojo remarked that Bdrmm's "murky spider play tugs at the listener's emotions in unanticipated ways". [2] The Quietus 's Zara Hedderman found that it "builds and expands on the successes of its predecessor", from which it "retains a similar wash of reverb-drenched guitars and vocals". [7]
Robin Murray of Clash described the album as "a thrilling return" as well as "an about-turn of sorts, swapping the directness of their debut for an endearing brand of eclectic minimalism". [4] NME 's Thomas smith stated that "where their debut was dark and informed by the early-20s malaise (no wonder it chimed well in COVID's lost years), I Don’t Know shows glimmers of hope." He concluded, "This is a special record by a band who are not-so-quietly raising the bar for the whole British scene". [5] The Skinny 's Jo Higgs opined that Bdrmm "have a solid formula: radio-rock with more substance, nuance and historical awareness than most of their contemporaries". [6]
Paul Simpson of AllMusic wrote that I Don't Know contains an "expanded pool of influences, which still include all manner of dreamy, hypnotic rock music, as well as ambient, dance, and classical, incorporating a greater presence of synths and atmospheric textures", also calling the band "consistently inventive, the production is generally fantastic, and the album has several strong moments". [3] Craig Howieson, reviewing the album for The Line of Best Fit , felt that "the longing shoegaze of their earlier work still persists, but it is no longer tempered by a longing to escape, it is emboldened by a knowledge of the beauty that lies beyond" and that Bdrmm "have created an enigma for you to unravel. One of dark beauty and twisting longing." [1]

Shoegaze is a subgenre of indie and alternative rock characterized by its ethereal mixture of obscured vocals, guitar distortion and effects, feedback, and overwhelming volume. It emerged in Ireland and the United Kingdom in the late 1980s among neo-psychedelic groups who usually stood motionless during live performances in a detached, non-confrontational state. The name comes from the heavy use of effects pedals, as the performers were often looking down at their pedals during concerts.
Slowdive are a British rock band that formed in Reading, Berkshire, in 1989. The band consists of Rachel Goswell on vocals and guitar, Neil Halstead on vocals and guitar, Christian Savill on guitar, Nick Chaplin on bass guitar and Simon Scott on drums, all of whom have played on the band's debut studio album Just for a Day (1991). Halstead is the band's primary songwriter.

The song charted in Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, as well as on the US Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart. It was one of the few singles that did not appear on the Smashing Pumpkins' greatest hits album Rotten Apples.

The Twilight Sad are a Scottish post-punk/indie rock band, comprising James Graham (vocals), Andy MacFarlane (guitar), Johnny Docherty (bass), Brendan Smith (keyboards) and Grant Hutchison (drums). They have released five studio albums, as well as several EPs, live recordings and singles. Their 2007 debut album, Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters, drew widespread acclaim from critics, who noted Graham's thick Scottish accent and MacFarlane's dense sonic walls of shoegazing guitar and wheezing accordion. The Twilight Sad's notoriously loud live performances have been described as "completely ear-splitting", and the band toured for the album across Europe and the United States throughout 2007 and 2008. Sessions inspired by stripped-down and reworked live performances yielded the 2008 mini-album, Here, It Never Snowed. Afterwards It Did.
"Standing Next to Me" is a song by English baroque pop band The Last Shadow Puppets. It was released on 7 July 2008 in the United Kingdom by Domino Recording Company as the second single of their debut album The Age of the Understatement. Written by co-frontmen Alex Turner and Miles Kane, the song was produced by James Ford, and recorded at Black Box studios in France in the summer of 2007. The lyrics describe a love triangle between the narrator, a woman, and another man.
