Icon is a compilation album by Joe Cocker, released in 2011 (see 2011 in music).
John Robert "Joe" Cocker was an English singer known for his gritty, bluesy voice and dynamic stage performances that featured expressive body movements. Most of his best known singles were covers of songs by other artists, though he composed a number of his own songs for most of his albums as well, often in conjunction with songwriting partner Chris Stainton.
"Common People" is a song by English alternative rock band Pulp, released in May 1995 as the lead single off their fifth studio album Different Class. It reached number two on the UK Singles Chart, becoming a defining track of the Britpop movement and Pulp's signature song in the process. In 2014, BBC Radio 6 Music listeners voted it their favourite Britpop song in an online poll. In a 2015 Rolling Stone readers' poll it was voted the greatest Britpop song.
Woodstock: Music from the Original Soundtrack and More is a live album of selected performances from the 1969 Woodstock counterculture festival. Originally released on Atlantic Records' Cotillion label as a triple album on May 11, 1970, it was re-released as a two-CD set in 1994. Veteran producer Eddie Kramer was the sound engineer during the three-day event.
Sheffield Steel is the eighth studio album by Joe Cocker, produced by Chris Blackwell and Alex Sadkin, with Sly and Robbie, Wally Badarou, Barry Reynolds, Mikey Chung and Uziah "Sticky" Thompson, a.k.a. the Compass Point Allstars, a studio band named after the legendary Compass Point Studios, Nassau, Bahamas, and released in 1982. This was Cocker's first album for Island Records and followed a four-year break in recording for the singer following his previous album, Luxury You Can Afford. It was re-released in 2002 with several bonus tracks.
"Could You Be Loved" is a song by Jamaican reggae band Bob Marley and the Wailers. It was released in 1980 on their last album Uprising and is included on Bob Marley and the Wailers' greatest-hits album Legend. It was written in 1979 on an aeroplane while The Wailers were experimenting on guitar.
One Night of Sin is the twelfth studio album by English singer Joe Cocker, released by Capitol Records in June 1989. It contains the hit single "When The Night Comes", which was Cocker's last US Top 40 hit. The song is also notable because it was written by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance. In addition, the former plays rhythm guitar on the song. Other notable songs on the album include a cover of "One Night", a #1 hit by Elvis Presley from 1958, and "I'm Your Man" by Leonard Cohen. The album also features "Another Mind Gone", which was the first album track in thirteen years co-written by Cocker— in the interim, he had also received songwriting credits for the songs “We Stand Alone” and “Now That You’re Gone”. “Another Mind Gone” was dedicated to B. J. Wilson, Cocker's former bandmate and a friend.
Something To Say is the third studio album by Joe Cocker, released in 1972 in Europe on Cube Records, and in the USA as Joe Cocker on A&M Records. It contains the hit single "High Time We Went", that was released in the summer of 1971. Something To Say signalled Cocker's change of direction into a more jazzy, blues style. The album reached no. 30 in the US album charts. However, although it received a positive response from the press, it made no impression on the British and European charts.
