The Indonesian National Police is the national law enforcement and police force of the Republic of Indonesia. Founded on 1 July 1946,it was formerly a part of the country's military since 1962. The police were formally separated from the armed forces on 1 April 1999 in a process which was formally completed on 1 July 1999.

Police-General Badrodin Haiti was the Chief of the Indonesian National Police from 16 January 2015 until 13 July 2016,succeeding,Police-General Sutarman. On 16 January 2015 Badrodin was appointed by Indonesian President Joko Widodo to be the Acting Chief of Indonesian National Police replacing Sutarman,who officially retired from the service and awaiting for elected Police Chief Police-Commissioner General Budi Gunawan who was a suspect on a corruption case. On 16 April 2015,he was confirmed unanimously by Indonesian House of Representatives and sworn in by President Joko Widodo on 17 April 2015. He was replaced by Police-General Tito Karnavian.
Muhammad Tito Karnavian is an Indonesian retired police officer who is currently serving as Minister of Home Affairs since 2019. Previously,he served as chief of the Indonesian National Police from 2016 to 2019 and chief of the National Counter Terrorism Agency in 2016.
The East Indonesia Mujahideen was an Islamist militant group operating out of Poso,Sulawesi in Indonesia. The group was led by Abu Wardah until he was killed by Indonesian police on 18 July 2016. After the death of Santoso,the group was led by Ali Kalora until he was killed on 18 September 2021. The group has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.
A terrorist attack occurred on November 13,2016 when a man named Juhanda detonated a Molotov bomb in front of Oikumene Church in Samarinda Seberang,Samarinda,East Kalimantan,Indonesia,where children were playing. A toddler was killed in the incident and three other toddlers were injured. In September 2017,Juhanda and four others were convicted of the attack,with Juhanda sentenced to life imprisonment,while the others received sentences ranging from six to seven years.
Khofifah Indar Parawansa is an Indonesian politician who is the current Governor of East Java. Previously she served as the 27th Minister of Social Affairs. She resigned from the position in January 2018 in order to run in the East Java gubernatorial election.
On 24 May 2017,two explosions occurred at a bus terminal in Kampung Melayu,East Jakarta. Police confirmed that the explosions were caused by multiple explosive devices found in the toilet and in another part of the terminal. The bombings killed five people:three policemen and two attackers. The 11 injured people were taken to multiple hospitals across the Eastern Jakarta area.
Criminal Investigation Agency is one of central executive agencies of Indonesian Police Force. Bareskrim is led by Kepala Bareskrim / Kabareskrim,a three-star general in Indonesian National Police. Bareskrim conducts inquiries into a variety of criminal offences,initiates criminal investigations,identifies suspects,makes arrests,and is in charge of forensic laboratory. The agency is currently led by Komisaris Jenderal Polisi Agus Andrianto. Officers from this unit wear civilian attire on duty.
The 2018 Surabaya bombings were a series of terrorist attacks that initially occurred on 13 May 2018 in three churches in Surabaya,the second largest city in Indonesia and the capital of East Java province. The explosions occurred at Immaculate Saint Mary Catholic Church on Ngagel Madya Street;Indonesia Christian Church on Diponegoro Street;and Surabaya Central Pentecost Church on Arjuno Street. The first explosion took place at the SMTB Church;the second and third explosions followed within an hour.

A series of mass protests led by students took place at major cities in Indonesia from 23 September 2019,to rally against new legislation that reduces the authority of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK),as well as several bills including a new criminal code that penalises extramarital sex and defamation against the president. The protesters consisted of mostly students from over 300 universities,with no association with any particular political parties or groups. The protests were the most prominent student movement in Indonesia since the 1998 riots that brought down the Suharto regime.

Budi Gunawan is an Indonesian police officer who is the Chief of the Indonesian State Intelligence Agency (BIN) since September 9,2016,and is also the General Chairman of the Indonesian E-Sports Executive Board. He previously served as Deputy Chief of Indonesian National Police accompanying National Police Chief Badrodin Haiti and Tito Karnavian. He is the second member of the police after Sutanto to lead the State Intelligence Agency.
Listyo Sigit Prabowo is an Indonesian Police-General,who is currently the Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri). He was previously the Head of the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim),and was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo as new National Police Chief on 27 January 2021.
Napoleon Bonaparte is an Indonesian police officer who last served as the Head of the International Division of the Indonesian National Police. Following his involvement in the Djoko Tjandra scandal,he was removed from office. He was brought to trial and sentenced to four years in prison.

The murder of Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat,a 27-year-old Indonesian National Police officer,occurred on 8 July 2022 in Jakarta. The ensuing investigation included allegations of an affair,missing CCTV footage,and an attempted cover-up. The incident has been described by Indonesia Police Watch chairman,Sugeng Teguh Santoso,as "the worst scandal in the police's history".
