In the Mix is an American television series for young adults that covers a wide variety of critical issues and provides useful life skill information.

Format and themes

In the Mix is a series that aired on PBS Kids for teenagers and young adults aged 14–21. Each half-hour single theme episode typically includes several segments devoted to a serious issues facing youth, including school violence, mental illness, drugs, employment training, and interpersonal relationships. In addition, the programs are often co-hosted by celebrities. [2]

All the hosts and reporters featured on In the Mix are teens or young adults; several have gone on to careers in the fields of entertainment or journalism, including Jason Biggs, Kevin Jordan, Alimi Ballard, Nathan Marshall, Janine Acquafredda and Eden Regal.

Current status

As of Spring 2016, "In the Mix" continues to air on select PBS stations, primarily in educational blocks, and is also broadcast to Canada. The current catalogue comprises 65 half-hour single theme programmes. All programmes are available for purchase as DVDs, with most including discussion guides and some offering Spanish subtitles as an option. These programmes are utilised in middle school through college settings, including for teacher and counsellor training [3] .

Additionally, "In the Mix" has received recognition from various national educational and health organizations. The series won the National Mental Health Association's Media Award for its coverage of depression in teenagers. Various episodes of the show have also been included on the Young Adult Library Services Association's lists of selected videos.

Degrassi Talks is a Canadian non-fiction documentary television miniseries and part of the Degrassi franchise created by Linda Schuyler and Kit Hood. Running six episodes from February 29 to March 30, 1992, it featured actors from Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High taking the role of journalists and conducting interviews with other teenagers and young adults across Canada on various topics addressed by the series such as abuse, substance addiction, homophobia, and teenage pregnancy. It combined candid and man-on-the-street interviews as well as relevant archive footage from the television series and on-screen statistics. Each episode was hosted by an actor whose character had some relation to the focused subject.

<i>Powerhouse</i> (TV series) American TV series or program

Powerhouse is an American television series produced by the Educational Film Center at Northern Virginia ETV, which aired on PBS for 16 episodes in 1982. It was billed as "a 16-part series for young people and their families," with the target audience being primarily children, preteens, teenagers, and young adults. The series was later rerun by Nickelodeon from 1984 to 1986.

Nature is a wildlife television program produced by Thirteen/WNET New York. It has been distributed to United States public television stations by the PBS television service since its debut on October 10, 1982. Some episodes may appear in syndication on many PBS member stations around the United States and Canada, and on the Discovery Channel. This series currently airs on Wednesday on PBS.

<i>We Are England</i> (2022 TV programme) BBC regional documentary

We Are England is a regional current affairs documentary programme shown on BBC One. The programme is made by six teams around England, based in Birmingham, London, Bristol, Leeds, Newcastle and Norwich. The programme airs six original half-hour documentaries each week, with each week themed around a different topic; the first theme was Mental Health. The programme replaced regional current affairs show Inside Out. A notable change was that each We Are England episode is a single half hour documentary, whereas Inside Out normally aired a collection of short-form pieces in its 30 minute slot.
