Miffy and Friends (Dutch : Nijntje en haar vriendjes) is a stop-motion animated television series, based on the Miffy book series by Dutch artist Dick Bruna. [1] The series was produced by Big Tent Entertainment and Mercis BV in association with Palm Multimedia.

Miffy and Friends was originally broadcast from 2003 until 2007 on KRO in the Netherlands [2] and on CITV in the UK. In the US, it aired on Noggin. [3] Noggin created original "interactive game" shorts to air between segments of Miffy and Friends. [4] The series later aired in syndication on select PBS stations from 2008 to 2012. [5]

Plot

The show focuses on the life of a young rabbit Miffy. The show is presented in a storybook style, with narration by Canadian actress/singer Cyd Vandenberg explaining the actions of non-speaking Miffy and her friends.

Production took place in the Netherlands. Big Tent Entertainment and Mercis BV produced the series in association with Palm Multimedia.

Telecast and home media

Miffy and Friends was first introduced on the Dutch KRO in 2003 until it ended in 2007. [2] The show made its world premiere on CITV in the UK. [6] In the US, it aired on Noggin until 2007, [7] and some PBS stations aired repeats from 2008 to 2012. [5] It also aired on Treehouse TV in Canada, [8] on ABC Kids in Australia [9] and on TV3 in New Zealand.

During its run, several videotapes including episodes of the series were produced. The series was also made available on DVD in America through Sony Wonder and Big Tent Entertainment. [10] Select Miffy and Friends episodes were included on themed DVDs released in 2009. [11] In 2016, it was also available for streaming on the Noggin app.

In 2022, Miffy and Friends was made available to stream on Amazon Prime.

Sequel

In 2015, a continuation of the series, Miffy's Adventures Big and Small , premiered on NPO Zappelin in the Netherlands and on Tiny Pop in the UK; it concluded on June 15, 2019.

Maggie and the Ferocious Beast is a Canadian animated children's television series created by Michael and Betty Paraskevas. The program was based on the 1996 book The Ferocious Beast with the Polka-Dot Hide and its sequels, which were also written by the Paraskevas. Two years later, the show started off as a series of shorts aired on the Canadian channel Teletoon in 1998. The first full-length episode first premiered on Nickelodeon as part of the Nick Jr. programming block on June 5, 2000, in the U.S. before premiering on Teletoon on August 26 of that same year in Canada. Marvin the Tap-Dancing Horse is a Canadian children's animated television series co-produced by Nelvana and Hong Guang Animation for Teletoon and PBS Kids. Among the series' executive producers are Michael Paraskevas and Betty Paraskevas, creators of Maggie and the Ferocious Beast, who also created the book that the show is based on.
