The Income Tax Department cricket team played first-class cricket in Pakistan from 1975 to 1979, competing in the Patron's Trophy. [1]

First-class playing record

Income Tax Department played eight matches over four seasons, winning one, losing three and drawing four. In 1977-78, after defeating Peshawar by two wickets, [2] they progressed to the semi-finals, where they were overwhelmed by Habib Bank Limited, for whom Arshad Pervez and Mohsin Khan put on 426 for the second wicket. [3]

Leading players

Saadat Ali played all eight matches, scoring 942 runs at an average of 62.80, [4] and taking 17 wickets at 30.29. [5] He made the team's highest score, 277 against Bahawalpur in 1976-77. [6] The best bowling figures were 8 for 82 (13 for 165 in the match) by Saud Khan against Lahore A in 1977-78. [7]

Current status

Income Tax Department teams have continued to play at sub-first-class level. They compete in Grade II of the Patron's Trophy. [8]

The 2015-16 season Tournament started on 26 October 2015. The Federally Administered Tribal Areas cricket team competed in the competition for the first time. Following the completion of the group stages, Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited, National Bank of Pakistan, Water and Power Department Authority, National Bank of Pakistan, United Bank Limited, Khan Research Laboratory, Sui Southern Gas Cooperation, Lahore White and Lahore Blues all qualified for the Super Eight portion of the competition.

The 2017–18 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy was a first-class domestic cricket competition that took place in Pakistan from 26 September to 25 December 2017. Pakistan's former Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq was critical of the compressed schedule and the quality of the pitches saying "it takes time to prepare a good pitch for a game and nobody can make it in two days". Sixteen teams are competing, made up of the top eight regional teams and the top eight departmental teams. Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) were the defending champions.

The 2018–19 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy was a first-class domestic cricket competition that took place in Pakistan from 1 September to 8 December 2018. Following the conclusion of each match, the teams played each other in a List A fixture in the 2018–19 Quaid-e-Azam One Day Cup tournament. Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited were the defending champions.
