Federal Areas cricket team

Federal Areas was a first-class cricket team in Pakistan based in the capital, Islamabad. Since February 2008 they have played 16 first-class matches in four seasons of the Pentangular Cup. Their home ground was the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad.

Background

When the Pakistan Cricket Board revamped the Pentangular Cup for the 2007-08 season, they created the Federal Areas team to make a fifth competitor alongside the teams from the four provinces. In order to make the competition even, "the Pakistan Cricket Board selected the top 75 Quaid-e-Azam players plus 20 juniors and divided them [among the five teams], mostly on a regional basis but reallocating some to strengthen the weaker sides." [1] Few of the Federal Areas players were actually from the Islamabad area.

Playing record

Federal Areas’ best season was their first, when they finished second with two wins and two draws. They hit their highest score, 597 for 8 declared, in an innings victory over Baluchistan, [2] and won their last match, against Sindh in their first match at the Diamond Club Ground, by chasing down a target of 322 with one wicket in hand. [3]

They came fourth with one victory in 2008-09, third with one victory in 2011-11, and fourth with no victories in 2011-12. Overall, of their 16 matches they have won 4, lost 4, and drawn 8.

Leading players

Their highest scorer, with 788 runs in 11 matches at an average of 52.53, is Bazid Khan, who has also hit the highest score of 172 against Baluchistan in 2007-08. The best innings bowling figures are 7 for 21 by Sohail Tanvir against Baluchistan in 2008-09, [4] and he also has taken the most wickets, 56 in 10 matches at 23.75. [5] The best match bowling figures are 10 for 79 (5 for 34 and 5 for 45) by Nasrullah Khan against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2010-11. [6] There have been five captains: Shoaib Akhtar, Naved Ashraf (who has made 519 runs at 39.92), Iftikhar Anjum (31 wickets at 21.93), Bazid Khan and Sohail Tanvir.

Apart from Iftikhar Anjum and Nasrullah Khan, the other notable Federal Areas player from Islamabad is Raheel Majeed, who has made 650 runs in 11 matches at 32.50. [7]

Pentangular One-Day Cup

A 50-over List A competition was held among the five provincial teams in 2008-09 and 2009-10. In 2008-09 the Federal Areas Leopards came second after the round-robin and played off in the final against the first-placed Punjab Stallions, losing by eight wickets. The Federal Areas Leopards came third in 2009-10. Shoaib Akhtar is Federal Areas' leading wicket-taker with 19 wickets, including 6 for 52 against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Panthers in 2009-10. Sohail Tanvir will be representing the Multan Sultans when the PSL resumes for the finals of the series in November 2020 after the team ended the league stage on top of the table. He is currently enrolled in the USA Open draft for the upcoming edition of the tournament running from December 16–20, 2020. In a 2020 interview, Tanvir described his 2007 Test debut wicket of Rahul Dravid in Delhi as the 'ball of his life' when the ball pitched outside leg stump and shattered 'the wall's off-stump in an unplayable manner.

Islamabad Leopards Cricket team based in Islamabad, Pakistan

The Islamabad Leopards are a domestic T20 and List A team, based in Islamabad, Pakistan. The team was established in 2004 and its home ground is the Quaid-I-Azam Stadium which is currently under construction. The manager of the Leopards is Mr Nasir Iqbal. Head Coach is Mr Taimur Azam who is PCB/ACB/ECB Level 3 Qualified Coach.

Mohammad Junaid Khan is a Pakistani international cricketer who bowls left arm fast. He is the first player from Swabi to qualify for the Pakistan national cricket team. His cousin, the leg-spinner Yasir Shah, followed his path later.

2016 Pakistan Cup

The 2016 Pakistan Cup was a five-team limited overs (one-day) cricket tournament that took place in Faisalabad, Punjab, from 19 April to 1 May 2016. It was contested by teams representing Pakistan's four provinces and the capital. Squads for the tournament were selected based on a draft system.

The Pakistan Cup is the national domestic List A cricket competition in Pakistan. Played originally as the Pentangular One Day Cup in 2008–09, 2009–10 and 2014–15, the competition was renamed as the Pakistan Cup in 2016 when it also adopted a draft to select squads for the five provincial teams. Following a national restructuring of domestic cricket by the Pakistan Cricket Board in 2019, the tournament has been contested by the six regional teams, although the first edition under the new structure, in 2019–20, was not held due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Karachi Kings is a franchise cricket team that represents Karachi in the Pakistan Super League. They are one of the five teams that had a competition in the 2017 Pakistan Super League. The team was captained by Kumar Sangakkara, and they stand on third position after winning four matches from their eight matches in the PSL 2017.

The 2019 Pakistan Cup was the fourth edition of the Pakistan Cup, a List A cricket competition which was contested between five teams. It was held from 2 to 12 April 2019, with all the matches played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stated that the top performers in the tournament would be considered for the 2019 Cricket World Cup in England.

Northern cricket team Pakistani first-class cricket team

Northern cricket team is a domestic cricket team in Pakistan representing Islamabad Capital Territory, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir. It competes in domestic first-class, List A and T20 cricket competitions, namely the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, Pakistan Cup and National T20 Cup.
