Insomniacks is a Malaysian pop band from Kuala Lumpur. [1] They rose to prominence with the release of their second single, "Pulang", in 2018, [1] which charted on the Malaysian RIM streaming charts for 146 consecutive weeks, and a total of 185 weeks as of July 2022. [2] [3] [4]
The group have cited 5 Seconds of Summer, Fall Out Boy, Day6, Mayday Parade and Paramore as influences. [5] [6]
The band began as Dan's Band with Danial and Iqbal who were classmates at SMK St. John. Gavin joined as the drummer after being recommended to the duo by Iskandar (a schoolmate of Gavin's at Sekolah Sri KDU, and childhood friend of Iqbal's). Iskandar would later go on to join the band as their bassist. [7]
Insomniacks formed in 2015. In November of that year, the quartet would begin posting videos of themselves performing covers of popular songs on their YouTube channel. [8]
In 2017, they released their debut single, "Selalu", which was featured as part of the soundtrack of the Astro Ria drama, My Coffee Prince. [5]
In 2018, the group released their second single, "Pulang". The group released the four-episode Pulang WEBisode webseries on their YouTube channel as part of their single promotions. "Pulang" achieved the record for most consecutive weeks on the RIM streaming charts. [2] [3] "Pulang" has been on the RIM Malay singles chart for 185 weeks, as of July 2022. [4]
In 2019, Iqbal co-founded the Klang Valley-based music collective, Distorted (alias Distorted Material), alongside Jessel Phuah (Sino), Ariff Jazmi, Helloluqman of Block J (Jonah), and Nik Qayrel Aiman (Eneyeqay) of the duo Niqie. Iqbal goes by the alias Balo as part of Distorted. [9]
Insomniacks were the fifth most streamed Malaysian artist on Spotify, in 2019. [10]
In 2020, Insomniacks released their third single, "Kepala Batu" ahead of the release of their debut EP of the same name. "Kepala Batu" was composed in collaboration with prolific Malaysian singer-songwriter, Faizal Tahir. [11] The lead single from the EP, "Reminisensi", was the first song Insomniacks wrote as a band. [11]
After four years signed with Sony Music Malaysia, their contract expired in 2020. They consequently signed with Universal Music Malaysia in March 2021. [12] On 14 February 2022, Insomniacks released, "Sempurna". The single peaked at number 1 on the RIM Malay singles streaming chart [13] and number 5 on Billboard's Malaysia Songs chart. [14]
Since March 2022, Gavin has not been participating in "Sempurna" promotions with the band. On 12 June 2022, it was announced in a statement on his and the band's social media that he would be taking an extended hiatus from the band and will not be part of any upcoming projects. [15]
The band released their first single as a trio, "Igauan Malam", on 4 November 2022.

"Numb" is a song by American rock band Linkin Park. It was released as the third single from their second studio album, Meteora (2003), and is the closing track on the album. Persatuan Industri Rakaman Malaysia (RIM) is a Malaysian non-profit music organisation, founded on 12 December 1978, as the Malaysian Association of Phonograph Producers (MAPP). In the end of the 1980s, it changed its name to Malaysian Association of Phonogram and Videogram Producers and Distributors (MAPV). It adopted its current name in 1996.

"Lie to Me" is a song by Australian pop rock band 5 Seconds of Summer. It is the third track on the band's third studio album Youngblood, released on 15 June 2018. The song was re-recorded featuring additional vocals by American singer-songwriter Julia Michaels, who also co-wrote the song and was released on 21 December 2018 as the album's fourth and final single.
Kim Yoon-ho, known professionally as Shaun (Korean: 숀), is a South Korean singer-songwriter, music producer, and DJ. He debuted in 2010 as the keyboardist and backup singer of the indie rock band The Koxx. In July 2018, his solo song, "Way Back Home," unexpectedly topped South Korean music charts, drawing accusations that he and his management had manipulated chart rankings. His management company denied the accusations, as did Shaun himself. After investigation by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, these accusations were found false.
Alif Abdullah, better known as ALYPH or Alif is a Singaporean-Malay singer, performer, songwriter, composer and producer based in Malaysia. Between 2005 and 2015, Alif was active as part of the Singaporean hip hop and R&B duo, SleeQ, along with his cousin, Syarifullah/Syarif. He is the founder of the record label Black Hat Cat Records. He signed with Def Jam Recordings South East Asia in 2019.

DOLLA is a Malaysian girl group formed in 2019 by Universal Music Malaysia. Its current members consists of Sabronzo, Tabby and Angel. Originally a quartet, the group then continued as a trio following the departure of one of its original members, Syasya, who announced her permanent departure from the group in April 2024. The group is known for their vocal, dance and rap elements in their performances. They signed a contract with Universal Music Malaysia and released their debut single "Dolla Make You Wanna" on 20 March 2020. Their fandom is called "iDolla".
"Matches" is a song recorded by American singer Britney Spears and American boy band Backstreet Boys for the deluxe reissue edition of Spears' ninth studio album, Glory (2016). It was written by Asia Whiteacre, Justin Tranter, and the song's producers Michael Wise and Ian Kirkpatrick. It is a dance, electropop, and glitch pop song consisting of the lyrics describing a dangerous relationship. The single met with positive reception, with critics pointing out the "90's vibe" that the song gives off.
"Feel My Rhythm" is a song recorded by South Korean girl group Red Velvet for their extended play The ReVe Festival 2022 – Feel My Rhythm (2022). Written by Seo Ji-eum and composed by various contributors, including Andreas Öberg, the song was released as the lead single of the extended play (EP) on March 21, 2022 through SM Entertainment, along with an accompanying music video.
Stephen Christopher Sanchez is an American singer-songwriter. Based in Nashville, Sanchez released his debut extended play What Was, Not Now in October 2021. Sharifah Aisha Retno binti Sayed Sipulijam is a Malaysian singer-songwriter and actress. In 2020, Retno participated in the singing competition Vokal Mania. She came to prominence in the Malaysian music industry after the release of her English-language single, "W.H.U.T", in late 2021/early 2022. In 2022, she was a contestant on season 4 of Big Stage, placing third overall.
Firdhaus is a Malaysian singer-songwriter. He debuted in the Mandopop industry under Loolala Music in 2020.
Taiwanese singer-songwriter Jay Chou has released fifteen studio albums since his debut in 2000. His sophomore studio album, Fantasy (2001), spawned singles such as "Simple Love" and "Silence", while his next album, The Eight Dimensions (2002), was supported with singles such as "Secret Signal" and "Back to the Past".
