Jadesola Osiberu is a Nigerian writer, director and producer and founder of Greoh Studios. She is known for Isoken (2017), Sugar Rush (2019), Brotherhood (2022) and Gangs of Lagos , the first Nigerian original film set to stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. In September 2022, Osiberu's Greoh Studios signed a three-year deal with Amazon to develop and produce original scripted TV series and feature films. [1]

Early life and education

Born to a royal family in 1985, Osiberu's father, Oba Adewale Osiberu is the Elepe of Epe Sagamu. [2] Osiberu had her secondary education in Ibadan, before obtaining a Computer Systems Engineering degree from University of Manchester. [3] She is also an alumna of Pan-Atlantic University, where she studied Media and Communications. [4]

Career

Despite working professionally as a software developer after graduation, Osiberu decided to change career to film-making. [4] In celebrating the Women's History Month, Pulse included her in its list of ten women making waves by developing content in Nigerian film industry. [5] Osiberu started her production company, Tribe85 Productions in 2017 with the aim of "telling African stories to a global audience". [6] During an interview with BellaNaija, her work ethic, attention to detail and creative drive was praised by the interviewer. [7]

In 2018, she headlined Nollywood Film Festival in Scotland. [8]

In 2017, Osiberu wrote and directed Isoken , a film about the challenges faced by an unmarried female professionals amidst pressure from family, as well as romantic interracial relationships in modern Nigerian setting. For her directorial role, she won best director at 2018 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards and got a Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Director nomination. [9]

The film was also the subject of scholarly discussions with the titular character being characterized with traits of feminism. [10] Culture Custodian highlighted how the theme of the film is set up to fight misogyny in the Nigerian patriarchal society. [11]

Osiberu had her marriage ceremony on May 11, 2019 in Sagamu, Ogun State. [19]

<i>Ayinla</i> (film) 2021 Nigerian movie by Tunde Kelani

Ayinla is a musical eponymous film based on the life of Ayinla Yusuf popularly known as Ayinla Omowura, an Apala musician who was stabbed to death by his manager named Bayewu in a bar fight on 6 May 1980 at Abeokuta. The film premiered on 13 June 2021 in Lagos and was released to theatres on 18 June 2021. Directed by Tunde Kelani, the film was set in the 1970s and early 1980s and shot in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Lateef Adedimeji assumed the role of Ayinla, starring alongside Omowumi Dada, Bimbo Manuel, Ade Laoye, Kunle Afolayan, Bimbo Ademoye and Mr Macaroni. Ayinla is Kelani's first major film since his 2015 release of Dazzling Mirage. The budget for this feature film is officially given as ₦50 Million.

The Set Up 2 is a 2022 Nigerian crime thriller film, a sequel to The Set Up released in 2019. The Nollywood sequel was jointly produced by Inkblot Productions, Film One Entertainment and Anakle Studios. Brotherhood is a Nigerian crime-action thriller produced by Jade Osiberu and starring Tobi Bakre, Boma Akpore, Falz, Basketmouth, Sam Dede, Ronke Oshodi Oke, Toni Tones, Zubby Micheal, Mr Macaroni and a host of others. The film was released to cinemas in Africa on 23 September 2022. The film started showing simultaneously in several African countries including Nigeria, Cameroon, Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Togo, Niger Republic, Senegal, Congo, Rwanda, Gabon, Guinea, and Madagascar.

Ijakumo: The Born Again Stripper is a 2022 suspense thriller produced by Toyin Abraham and had its theatrical release on 23 December 2022. Genoveva Kenechukwu Umeh professionally known as Genoveva Umeh is a British–Nigerian Actress. She won the Best Supporting Actress award at The AMVCA in May 2024 for her role in the Prime Video Original titled Breath of Life. She was nominated for the Best Actress in a drama at the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Award 2022 for her role in ‘A Tune Away’. She also received critical acclaim for her roles in Nigerian's first Netflix original crime thriller series ‘Blood Sisters’ and young adult series ‘Far From Home’. One of her major film roles include ‘One Lagos Night’, 2019. She also leads as Shindara in Episode 4 of Showmax's Original Drama series ‘Crime and Justice Lagos’ 2022. In 2024, she won the best supporting actress at the 2024 AMVCA for her role in Breath of Life .
