Jaka Tingkir is an passenger train with economy class that is operated by Kereta Api Indonesia which between Pasar Senen and Solo Balapan via Purwokerto. The trip with time around 570 km (312 mil) in 8 hours 9 minutes.
The Jaka Tingkir train also support for the Bengawan which from Purwosari and Mataram train which same route, this train is operated to assist the duties of the Progo, Gajahwong, Bogowonto, and Mataram train which have the same relationship.
The name "Jaka Tingkir" comes from one of the monarchs of the Pajang Kingdom, Joko Tingkir, with the title "Sultan Hadiwijaya".
The Jaka Tingkir train was first time operate by KAI on 8 December 2013 with terminus at Solo Jebres. [1] Previously, there was a plan that the station would be made into a museum and a stop for economy train sets that would pass through the northern line (Semarang Poncol) so that the departure point for this train and the Bengawan was moved to Solo Purwosari Station on 1 February 2014.
The Jaka Tingkir train was launched to assist the operation of the Progo, Gajahwong, Bogowonto, and Mataram Premium which share the same track. At the beginning of its operation, this train only served certain service routes—for example, this train served from Solo Purwosari to Pasar Senen on Monday and served the opposite route on Tuesday. Since it received train sets made by PT INKA, this train can operate every day.
Since 1 December 2018, the service route of this train was shortened so that it only served the Yogyakarta Lempuyangan–Pasar Senen route—because some of the train sets had been used for the full operation of the Joglosemarkerto and Kamandaka lines. [2] Cross-services were changed to their original state starting 1 December 2019, in line with the implementation of the enactment of new train travel chart 2019. [3]
On 24 April 2022, the Jaka Tingkir train will be restarted after being out of service for two years. The Jaka Tingkir train is planned to operate using a premium economy train set made of stainless steel. The Jaka Tingkir train travel schedule from Solo Purwosari Station departs at 23.45 and will arrive at Pasar Senen Station at 08.37 but the Jaka Tingkir train journey returned to using the old schedule for 7.5 years, in December 2014, namely 12.50 departing from Pasar Senen Station and arriving at Solo Purwosari Station at 21.28 local time.
Started on 9 December 2024, One day after the 11th anniversary of this train, it officially used the latest generation of economy class trains made of stainless steel made by PT INKA Madiun.
Since 1 February 2025 following the enactment of new train travel chart 2025, The Jaka Tingkir train extended to Solo Balapan for support Mataram with the Fajar and Senja Utama Solo. [4]
