Helsingin Sanomat, abbreviated HS and colloquially known as Hesari, is the largest subscription newspaper in Finland and the Nordic countries, owned by Sanoma. Except after certain holidays, it is published daily. Its name derives from that of the Finnish capital, Helsinki, where it is published. It is considered a newspaper of record for Finland.
Sanoma Corporation is Finland's largest media group and a European education publisher. The company has media business in Finland and an education business in twelve European countries, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Norway, Italy and Spain. The company is headquartered in Helsinki. At the end of 2021, Sanoma had approximately 4,800 employees.
Nelonen is a Finnish commercial television channel. It started out as Helsinki's local television channel PTV in 1990 on the HTV cable network, and changed its name first to PTV4. On June 1, 1997, the channel expanded to national coverage and changed its name to Nelonen, the Finnish name of the number four. Nelonen is mostly owned by Sanoma Corporation, which owns the Helsingin Sanomat and Ilta-Sanomat newspapers. Its largest owner was Aatos Erkko. Much of its programming is imported Australian, American, British, and European programs with Finnish captions. Its main market is the 25-44 demographic.
The Dudesons are a Finnish entertainment group. They are best known for their TV shows and live performances, which are a combination of stunts and comedy. Their early TV shows were similar to Jackass. Starting their television career in the early 2000s, they gained international fame and had a show on the American television channel MTV in 2010. After The Dudesons in America, the group started to shift from the stunts to more multidimensional careers.
Alamaailman Vasarat is an avant-garde Finnish musical group formed in 1997. Their music is influenced by European folk, klezmer, jazz and metal. Though not officially disbanded the group has been inactive since 2014. The band's founder Jarno Sarkula died on 12 July 2020 in Portugal.
MoonTV was a free Finnish cable network channel. It started off as a channel for programmes about computer and video games but later grew into a channel covering several areas of youth culture. In its prime it was the first interactive TV channel in the world. At its best MoonTV could reach 1.3 million potential viewers in the 12 biggest cities across Finland. In 2003 the channel was shut down after the company that owned it filed for bankruptcy.
Tiina-Rakel Liekki is a Finnish artist, freelance journalist, writer, director and producer, and former pornographic actress.
PTV4 (Paikallistelevisio) was a Finnish television channel which operated from 1990 to 1997. It was originally launched on the HTV cable network under the name of PTV, which was later changed to PTV4 in 1996 when it was bought by the Sanoma Group. It was the predecessor of the modern Finnish TV channel Nelonen which was launched June 1, 1997.
Miika Huttunen is the editor-in-chief of the Finnish gaming magazine Pelaaja. Prior to this he was a host of certain game-related television programmes primarily on the now defunct MoonTV cable channel. He became recognised for hosting Peliuutiset and continued hosting related topics on the more important shows such as Player and PC-Peliluola. He also hosted URL, infamously one of the last 15-minute shows on the channel alongside current editor-in-chief of Pelaaja, Thomas Puha. Unlike all other shows that Huttunen was in, URL was dedicated to the showing off and reviewing and/or insulting of web sites sent by fans.
Elias Poutanen is a former host/computer-game critic. He has worked for the magazine Pelaaja and for a number of related television programmes. Though officially a Finnish citizen, he was born in Australia.
Jarno "Jarppi" Leppälä is a Finnish television personality and a member of the stunt group the Dudesons.
HIFK Fotboll or IFK Helsingfors, was the association football section of HIFK, a sports club based in Helsinki, Finland. The men's football team most recently competed in the second tier of Finnish football, Ykkönen. Their home ground was the Bolt Arena. The team operated from 1897 to 2024 and was dissolved due to bankruptcy.
Digelius Music is a record shop and internet retailer located in Viiskulma, Helsinki, Finland. It has been functioning in more or less the same place since 1971. Officially its business is "retail of music and video recordings." There are several record shops in the same or neighbouring blocks.
Ismo Mikael Leikola, sometimes known professionally as ISMO, is a Finnish stand-up comedian, musician, author, screenwriter, and YouTuber. Leikola made his United States debut in 2014, when he won "The Funniest Person in the World" competition organized by the comedy club Laugh Factory. In 2015, he made comedy series ISMO for Finnish television and moved to the United States. He gained more recognition after his appearance on the Conan talk show in 2018 and has since toured internationally. He has a YouTube channel with over 360,000 subscribers.
Juhani "Jukka" Haavisto was a Finnish musician with the honorary title of music councilor. He also worked as a businessman in advertising business from 1959 to the 1990s, when he retired. However, he is perhaps best known for his work as a songwriter and for having played the vibraphone and the accordion in numerous bands.
Janne Kataja is a Finnish entertainer. As well as working as a magician, he also works as a stand up comedian, an actor and a host.
Jan Erola is a Finnish communications entrepreneur and former journalist and book publisher. Erola is the publisher of the online publication Nordic Defence Review and is also the CEO of his own Kravat Oy, a communications consultancy company. Since January 2000, he has appeared hundreds of times as a regular news commentator in the popular Jälkivisaat weekly news analysis section of Yleisradio's TV1 morning television.
Laura Pauliina Malmivaara is a Finnish actress. Her acting career began in 1993 and includes dozens of roles in film and television productions, as well as stage appearances. In addition to acting, she has also worked as a singer, photographer, television host, blogger and model.
