Bachtell worked as an organizer for the Communist Party in Illinois and was a member of the party's National Committee. [3] He was for a time the leader of the New York party. [4] [5]
In an article published in Political Affairs magazine right after his election,Bachtell laid out his analysis of the contemporary political situation in the United States and how Communists should conduct themselves within it. [6] He emphasized that the Communist Party will seek a peaceful transition to socialism so long as it is possible, saying "Given the development of democratic institutions and traditions in the U.S.,involvement in the electoral arena and political action is essential and grows in importance. It entails building broad anti-ultra right, reform and anti-monopoly coalitions that win majorities and thus power in every democratic institution e.g.,school boards, planning boards, city council, county boards, state legislature, federal office,in 'red' and 'blue' states."
The Anti-Masonic Party was the earliest third party in the United States. Formally a single-issue party,it strongly opposed Freemasonry in the United States. It was active from the late 1820s,especially in the Northeast, and later attempted to become a major party by expanding its platform to take positions on other issues. It declined quickly after 1832 as most members joined the new Whig Party;it disappeared after 1838.
The 1832 United States presidential election was the 12th quadrennial presidential election, held from Friday,November 2 to Wednesday,December 5,1832. Incumbent president Andrew Jackson, candidate of the Democratic Party, defeated Henry Clay, candidate of the National Republican Party.

Social Democrats,USA (SDUSA) is a social-democratic organization established in 1972 as the successor of the Socialist Party of America (SPA). The SPA had stopped running independent presidential candidates and consequently the term "party" in its name had confused the public. Moreover, replacing the "socialist" label with "social democrats" was meant to disassociate the group from the Soviet Union.

The stated aim of the League is the development of its members into Communists, through studying Socialism and through active participation in the struggles of the American working class. The YCL recognizes the Communist Party USA as the party for socialism in the United States and operates as the Party's youth wing. Although the name of the group changed a number of times during its existence, its origins trace back to 1920,shortly after the establishment of the first communist parties in the United States.
The Communist Party of Canada is a federal political party in Canada. Founded in 1921 under conditions of illegality,it is the second oldest active political party in Canada, after the Liberal Party of Canada. Although it does not currently have any parliamentary representation, the party's candidates have previously been elected to the House of Commons, the Ontario legislature, the Manitoba legislature, and various municipal governments across the country.
The Communist Party USA,officially the Communist Party of the United States of America (CPUSA),also known as the American Communist Party,is a communist party in the United States which was established in 1919 after a split in the Socialist Party of America following the Russian Revolution.

Cuba is a one-party state, with the Communist Party of Cuba being described as the "superior driving force of the society and the state" in the Constitution of Cuba, and the communist party is the only official political party. Elections in Cuba are not considered democratic because the government does not allow free and fair voting.

Politics is the process by which groups of people make decisions. Although the term is generally applied to behavior within civil governments, politics is observed in all human group interactions, including corporate, academic, and religious institutions. Politics consists of "social relations involving authority or power. The definition of "politics" from "The Free Dictionary" is the study of political behavior and examines the acquisition and application of power. Politics study include political philosophy, which seeks a rationale for politics and an ethic of public behavior, and public administration, which examines the practices of governance.
The American Left can refer to multiple concepts. It is sometimes used as a shorthand for groups aligned with the Democratic Party. At other times,it refers to groups that have sought egalitarian changes in the economic, political, and cultural institutions of the United States. Various subgroups with a national scope are active. Liberals and progressives believe that equality can be accommodated into existing capitalist structures, but they differ in their criticism of capitalism and on the extent of reform and the welfare state. Anarchists, communists, and socialists with international imperatives are also present within this macro-movement. Many communes and egalitarian communities have existed in the United States as a sub-category of the broader intentional community movement, some of which were based on utopian socialist ideals. The left has been involved in both the Democratic and Republican parties at different times, having originated in the Democratic-Republican Party as opposed to the Federalist Party.

Democratic centralism is the organisational principle of socialist states and of most communist parties.
