Jarvis Tyner (born July 11,1941) is an American activist and the former Executive Vice Chair of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). He is a resident of Manhattan,New York City. In 1972 and 1976,he ran on the Communist Party ticket for Vice President of the United States.
Tyner was born in 1941 in the Mill Creek community of West Philadelphia,and graduated from West Philadelphia High School. He joined the Communist Party USA at the age of 20. After several years working in various industrial jobs in the Philadelphia area,where he was a member of the Amalgamated Lithographers of America and Teamsters,he moved to New York in 1967 to become the national chair of the DuBois Clubs of America,and later founding chair of the Young Workers Liberation League. He was the Communist Party USA candidate for vice president of the U.S. in 1972 and 1976,running with party leader Gus Hall.
Tyner has been a public spokesperson for the CPUSA,presenting its positions against racism,imperialism,and war. Tyner has also contributed to the CPUSA's Political Affairs Magazine and its People's World . He currently resides in the Inwood section of Manhattan,New York City.

Gus Hall was an American activist who served as the General Secretary of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) from 1959 to 2000. As a labor leader,Hall was closely associated with the so-called "Little Steel" Strike of 1937,an effort to unionize the nation's smaller,regional steel manufacturers. During the Second Red Scare,he was indicted under the Smith Act and was sentenced to eight years in prison. After his release,Hall led the CPUSA for over 40 years,generally taking an orthodox Marxist–Leninist stance and becoming a perennial candidate for president of the United States.

James W. “Jim”Ford was an activist,a politician,and the vice-presidential candidate for the Communist Party USA in the years 1932,1936,and 1940. Ford was born in Alabama and later worked as a party organizer for the CPUSA in New York City. He was also the first African American to run on a U.S. presidential ticket (1932) in the 20th century.
Benjamin Jefferson Davis Jr.,was an African-American lawyer and communist who was elected in 1943 to the New York City Council,representing Harlem. He faced increasing opposition from outside Harlem after the end of World War II. In 1949 he was among a number of communist leaders prosecuted for violating the Smith Act. The W.E.B. Du Bois Clubs of America was a national youth organization sponsored by the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) and launched at a national convention held in San Francisco in June 1964. The organization was active in the American student movement of the 1960s and maintained a prominent presence on a number of college campuses including Columbia University in New York City and the University of California in Berkeley. The organization was dissolved by decision of the CPUSA in February 1970 and succeeded by a new organization known as the Young Workers Liberation League. They were named after socialist and racial and social activist W. E. B. Du Bois,co-founder of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

She is most well known for her work within schools,churches,her community,and Black owned businesses. Bell was also the head of the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers. Much of her work was carried out in Atlanta,Georgia. However,she was very active in her home state of Pennsylvania as well.
