Gus Hall was an American activist who served as the General Secretary of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) from 1959 to 2000. As a labor leader,Hall was closely associated with the so-called "Little Steel" Strike of 1937,an effort to unionize the nation's smaller,regional steel manufacturers. During the Second Red Scare,he was indicted under the Smith Act and was sentenced to eight years in prison. After his release,Hall led the CPUSA for over 40 years,generally taking an orthodox Marxist–Leninist stance and becoming a perennial candidate for president of the United States.

Earl Russell Browder was an American politician,spy for the Soviet Union,communist activist and leader of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). Browder was the General Secretary of the CPUSA during the 1930s and first half of the 1940s. During World War I,Browder served time in federal prison as a conscientious objector to conscription and the war. Upon his release,Browder became an active member of the American Communist movement,soon working as an organizer on behalf of the Communist International and its Red International of Labor Unions in China and the Pacific region.

Benjamin Jefferson Davis Jr.,was an African-American lawyer and communist who was elected in 1943 to the New York City Council,representing Harlem. He faced increasing opposition from outside Harlem after the end of World War II. In 1949 he was among a number of communist leaders prosecuted for violating the Smith Act. He was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison.

The W.E.B. Du Bois Clubs of America was a national youth organization sponsored by the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) and launched at a national convention held in San Francisco in June 1964. The organization was dissolved by decision of the CPUSA in February 1970 and succeeded by a new organization known as the Young Workers Liberation League. They were named after socialist and racial and social activist W. E. B. Du Bois,co-founder of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Debbie Amis Bell was an American Civil Rights activist,SNCC member,and active associate of the Communist Party USA. Bell was a Field Organizer for the SNCC. She is most well known for her work within schools,churches,her community,and Black owned businesses. Bell was also the head of the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers. Much of her work was carried out in Atlanta,Georgia. However,she was very active in her home state of Pennsylvania as well.
