Cornelius "Sonny" Fortune was an American jazz saxophonist. He played soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones, clarinet, and flute.
Alfred McCoy Tyner was an American jazz pianist and composer known for his work with the John Coltrane Quartet and his long solo career afterwards. He was an NEA Jazz Master and five-time Grammy award winner. Unlike many of the jazz keyboardists of his generation, Tyner very rarely incorporated electric keyboards or synthesizers into his work. Tyner has been widely imitated, and is one of the most recognizable and influential jazz pianists of all time.
Charles Tolliver is an American jazz trumpeter, composer, and co-founder of Strata East Records.
Crescent is a studio album by the jazz musician and composer John Coltrane. It was released in July 1964 through the label Impulse!. Alongside Coltrane on tenor saxophone, the album features McCoy Tyner (piano), Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones (drums) playing original Coltrane compositions.
The Real McCoy is the seventh album by jazz pianist McCoy Tyner and his first released on the Blue Note label. It was recorded on April 21, 1967, following Tyner's departure from the John Coltrane Quartet. It features performances by Tyner with tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Elvin Jones. Producer Alfred Lion recalls the recording session as a "pure jazz session. There is absolutely no concession to commercialism, and there's a deep, passionate love for the music embedded in each of the selections".
Aaron Scott is an American composer and jazz drummer from Chicago, Illinois. He has studied at several prestigious music schools. He was one of the founding member of the Orchestre National de Jazz, was awarded Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des, won three Grammy awards, and has worked with several well known Jazz artists.
Avery Sharpe is an American jazz double-bassist, electric bassist, composer, educator and founder of the artist-owned record label, JKNM Records.
Tender Moments is the eighth album by jazz pianist McCoy Tyner and his second released on the Blue Note label. It was recorded in December 1967 and features performances by Tyner with an expanded group featuring trumpeter Lee Morgan, trombonist Julian Priester, French horn player Bob Northern, tuba player Howard Johnson, alto saxophonist James Spaulding, tenor saxophonist Bennie Maupin, bassist Herbie Lewis and drummer Joe Chambers.
Time for Tyner is the ninth album by jazz pianist McCoy Tyner and his third released on the Blue Note label. It was recorded in May 1968 and features performances by Tyner with vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, bassist Herbie Lewis and drummer Freddie Waits.
Quartets 4 X 4 is a 1980 album by jazz pianist McCoy Tyner, released on the Milestone label. It was recorded in March and May 1980 by Tyner with bassist Cecil McBee and drummer Al Foster and featuring trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, guitarist John Abercrombie, vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson and alto saxophonist Arthur Blythe, each for one side of the original double LP. The album was digitally remastered and first issued on a single CD in 1993.
Love & Peace is a 1982 album by the Elvin Jones-McCoy Tyner Quintet released on the Japanese Trio label. It was recorded in April 1982 and features performances by Jones and Tyner with Pharoah Sanders, Jean-Paul Bourelly and Richard Davis.
Live at Sweet Basil is a 1989 live album by McCoy Tyner released on the Japanese King label. It was recorded in May 1989 and features performances by Tyner's trio which included bassist Avery Sharpe and drummer Aaron Scott at the Sweet Basil Jazz Club in New York City. The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow calls the album "a definitive look at McCoy Tyner in the late '80s".
Solar: Live at Sweet Basil is a 1991 live album by McCoy Tyner released on the Sweet Basil label. It was recorded in June 1991 at Sweet Basil in New York City and features a live performance by Tyner with bassist Avery Sharpe and drummer Aaron Scott. Another album of the evening's concert was released as Key of Soul (1992). The Allmusic review by Ken Dryden states "This solid concert is easily recommended to fans of McCoy Tyner".
In New York is a 1991 live album by tenor saxophonist Steve Grossman with the McCoy Tyner Trio released on the Dreyfus label. It was recorded in September 1991 at Sweet Basil in New York City and features a live performance by Grossman and Tyner with bassist Avery Sharpe and drummer Art Taylor. The AllMusic review by Richard Ginell states "With this kind of firepower, the listener is usually guaranteed a satisfying level of cooking jazz, and that's certainly what we get here, though it seldom rises above that into a higher region".
Prelude and Sonata is an album by McCoy Tyner released on Key'stone and Milestone label in 1995. It was recorded in November 1994 and has performances of classical and contemporary music by Tyner with the alto saxophonist Antonio Hart, tenor saxophonist Joshua Redman, double bass player Christian McBride and drummer Marvin "Smitty" Smith.
Lush Life is an album by jazz saxophonist Lou Donaldson recorded for the Blue Note label in 1967 and featuring Donaldson with Freddie Hubbard, Garnett Brown, Jerry Dodgion, Wayne Shorter, Pepper Adams, McCoy Tyner, Ron Carter, and Al Harewood performing arrangements by Duke Pearson. Due to the success of Donaldson's Alligator Bogaloo (1967) the album was not released until 1980 in Japan under the title Sweet Slumber and then finally released decades later internationally.
Easy Walker is an album by jazz saxophonist Stanley Turrentine recorded for the Blue Note label in 1966 and performed by Turrentine with McCoy Tyner, Bob Cranshaw and Mickey Roker. One additional track from an unreleased session arranged by Duke Pearson was added to the original CD release and another four bonus tracks recorded in 1969 and originally released on Ain't No Way were added to the 1997 CD reissue.

Sweet Basil was a jazz club in New York City's Greenwich Village, located at 88 Seventh Avenue South. Founded in 1974 by Sharif Esmat, it was considered among the most prominent New York City jazz clubs of its day. Many jazz albums were recorded live at Sweet Basil, including Cecil Taylor's Iwontunwonsi, McCoy Tyner's Live at Sweet Basil (1989) and Solar: Live at Sweet Basil, and the Jean-Michel Pilc Trio's Together: Live at Sweet Basil. From 1981 to 1992, the club was owned by Phyllis Litoff and her husband Mel Litoff.
Mustang! is an album by American trumpeter Donald Byrd featuring performances by Byrd with Sonny Red, Hank Mobley, McCoy Tyner, Walter Booker, and Freddie Waits recorded in 1966 and released on the Blue Note label in 1967 as BLP 4238. The CD reissue included two bonus tracks recorded in 1964.
