Alexander MacDonald is a Scottish former professional football player and manager. MacDonald played for St Johnstone, Rangers and Hearts. Robert Ferrier was an English footballer who played for Scottish club Motherwell as an outside left. He holds the record for most appearances in the Scottish Football League, and is one of the top ten goalscorers. He was captain of the side that won Motherwell's only league championship to date, in 1931–32, besides playing in two Scottish Cup finals. Ferrier represented the Scottish League XI in seven inter-league matches, scoring five goals. After retiring as a player in 1937, he was the Motherwell assistant manager and later managed Airdrieonians and Ayr United.

Airdrieonians Football Club is a Scottish professional football team in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, who are members of the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) and play in the Scottish Championship. They were formed in 2002 as Airdrie United Football Club following the liquidation of the original Airdrieonians club, formed in 1878. The club's official name was changed in 2013 with the approval of the Scottish Football Association to the traditional name of Airdrieonians. As with the previous club, this is often colloquially shortened to simply "Airdrie".

Thomas Montgomerie Duncan is a Scottish retired professional football outside left, best remembered for his 11 years in the Scottish League with Airdrieonians. He also briefly played in the Football League on loan at Newport County. Duncan later managed Queen's Park between November 1969 and May 1974.

Willie McCulloch was a Scottish footballer who played as a midfielder in the Scottish League for Alloa Athletic, Airdrieonians and Berwick Rangers. After his retirement as a player, he managed Cowdenbeath. McCulloch died on 9 December 2023, at the age of 75.

Peter Gildea (1883–1940) was a Scottish professional football outside right who played in the Football League for Bury. He also played in the Scottish League for Airdrieonians and later served Celtic as a scout.
