The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is the unified armed force of Ghana,consisting of the Army (GA),Navy (GN),and Ghana Air Force.
Lieutenant General Sir John Northcott was an Australian Army general who served as Chief of the General Staff during the Second World War,and commanded the British Commonwealth Occupation Force in the Occupation of Japan. He was the first Australian-born Governor of New South Wales.
General Sir Phillip Harvey Bennett,was a senior officer of the Australian Army who served as Chief of the Australian Defence Force from 1984 to 1987,and later as Governor of Tasmania from 1987 to 1995.
The 17th Construction Squadron is an Australian Army unit consisting of personnel drawn mainly from the Royal Australian Engineers. Originally formed in 1949,the squadron is currently part of the 6th Engineer Support Regiment and is based at RAAF Base Amberley. Personnel from the squadron have deployed on operations during the Vietnam War,in Namibia,East Timor,and the War in Afghanistan. The squadron has participated in the Army Aboriginal Community Assistance Program since 1997,and has also been called upon to provide assistance to the wider Australian community following natural disasters,including most recently in the wake of the 2010–11 Queensland floods.
General Sir Francis George Hassett was an Australian general who rose to the position of Chief of the Defence Force Staff,the professional head of the Australian Defence Force,serving in this capacity from November 1975 until April 1977. Hassett joined the Australian Army in 1935 upon gaining entrance into the Royal Military College,Duntroon. Serving with distinction in the early stages of the Second World War,he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1942 at the age of 23,and posted as a staff officer for the remainder of the war.
The United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) was a United Nations peacekeeping operation in Cambodia in 1992–93 formed following the 1991 Paris Peace Accords. This was the first occasion in which the UN directly assumed responsibility for the administration of an outright independent state,rather than simply monitoring or supervising the area. The UN transitional authority organized and ran elections,had its own radio station and jail,and was responsible for promoting and safeguarding human rights at the national level.
FCU –UNTAC,the Force Communications Unit UNTAC,was the Australian component of the UNTAC mission in Cambodia.
Lieutenant General Peter Francis Leahy,is a retired senior officer of the Australian Army,whose military career culminated with his appointment as Chief of the Army from 2002 until 2008. He has been director of the National Security Institute,University of Canberra,since October 2008.

Major General Richard Gary Wilson,AO is a retired senior officer of the Australian Army. He served as Director of the Defence Intelligence Organisation from 2009 to 2011,and Chairman of the Queensland Reconstruction Authority in the wake of the 2010–11 Queensland floods.
The United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) was a peacekeeping mission established in the early 1990s following the civil war which broke out in Cambodia after the collapse of the Khmer Rouge regime in 1979. The Australian government had closely followed events in Cambodia given the possible implications for regional security,while out of a desire to be seen as a good international citizen it had also invested heavily diplomatically in order to push the parties towards a peace agreement. In August 1989 the UN attempted to broker a peace agreement between the warring factions,and included amongst the reconnaissance party were two Australian officers tasked with laying the groundwork for a monitoring force should it be deployed. However,after the collapse of the peace effort the proposed UN force was cancelled and the reconnaissance team withdrawn.
Australian military involvement in peacekeeping operations has been diverse,and included participation in both United Nations sponsored missions,as well as those as part of ad hoc coalitions. Indeed,Australians have been involved in more conflicts as peacekeepers than as belligerents;however,according to Peter Londey "in comparative international terms,Australia has only been a moderately energetic peacekeeper." Although Australia has had peacekeepers in the field continuously for 60 years –the first occasion being in Indonesia in 1947,when Australians were among the first group of UN military observers –its commitments have generally been limited,consisting of small numbers of high-level and technical support troops or observers and police. David Horner has noted that the pattern changed with the deployment of 600 engineers to Namibia in 1989–90 as the Australian contribution to UNTAG. From the mid-1990s,Australia has been involved in a series of high-profile operations,deploying significantly large units of combat troops in support of a number of missions including those in Cambodia,Rwanda,Somalia and later in East Timor. Australia has been involved in close to 100 separate missions,involving more than 30,000 personnel and 11 Australians have died during these operations.
Major General Ian Campbell Gordon,is a retired senior officer of the Australian Army. He had a long and distinguished career culminating as Deputy Chief of Army (2004–2006) and Chief of Staff of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (2006–2008).
Major General Simone Louise Wilkie,is a retired Australian Army officer who was the Australian Deputy National Commander in the War in Afghanistan in 2011 and 2012. She was Assistant Chief of Staff to General David Petraeus during the Iraq War troop surge of 2007,and was the first female Commanding Officer of the Royal Military College,Duntroon and Commandant at the Army Recruit Training Centre at Kapooka. In March 2013 the Minister for Defence,Stephen Smith,announced her promotion to major general to take over as Commander of the Australian Defence College in July 2013.
General Angus John Campbell,is a senior officer in the Australian Army,serving as the Chief of the Defence Force since 6 July 2018. He was previously posted as Commander Operation Sovereign Borders from September 2013 until he was appointed Chief of Army in May 2015.
Lieutenant General Obed Boamah Akwa is a retired Ghanaian military officer who served as the Chief of the Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces from February 2017 to February 2021. Prior to his appointment,he was the Chief of Army Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Major General Roger John Noble,is a retired senior Australian Army officer and diplomat. He joined the army via the Australian Defence Force Academy in 1984 and was commissioned into the Royal Australian Armoured Corps. He commanded the 2nd Cavalry Regiment,Al Muthanna Task Group (2005) and the 3rd Brigade (2013–15),and deployed six times on operations to East Timor,Afghanistan and Iraq. He was seconded to the United States Army in 2016 and served as Deputy Coalition Land Force Commander,Iraq,as part of Operation Inherent Resolve,and subsequently as Deputy Commanding General –North in the United States Army Pacific (2017–19). He retired from the Australian Army in 2021 and served as Australian Ambassador for Counter-Terrorism from February 2021 to February 2023,before joining Laing O'Rourke as General Manager –Defence.
