Surigao del Sur,officially the Province of Surigao del Sur,is a province in the Philippines located in the Caraga region in Mindanao. Its capital is Tandag City while Bislig is the most populous city in the province. Surigao del Sur is situated at the eastern coast of Mindanao and faces the Philippine Sea to the east.

He was elected vice governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) in 2005. After Governor Zaldy Ampatuan's removal from office in 2009,Adiong became the acting governor until 2011.
The National Unity Party (NUP) is a political party in the Philippines. The party was formed in 2010 by former members of Lakas-Kampi CMD who broke away after internal discontent within the party. From 2016 to 2022,the party was part of the PDP–Laban-led coalition in the House of Representatives,the Coalition for Change.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Caraga is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus reached Caraga on April 6,2020,when the first case of the disease was confirmed in Butuan. The region was the last of the Philippines' 17 regions to confirm their first case. All provinces now have at least one confirmed COVID-19 case.
Surigao del Sur's 2nd congressional district is one of the two congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Surigao del Sur. It has been represented in the House of Representatives since 1987. The district consists of the city of Bislig and the southern municipalities of Barobo,Hinatuan,Lingig and Tagbina. It is currently represented in the 18th Congress by Johnny Pimentel of the National Unity Party (NUP).
