Joyce Vermue (born 22 June 1985) is a Dutch politician. She was a member of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands for the Labour Party between 22 September 2015 and 23 March 2017. She has been mayor of Zundert since July 2019.

Career

Vermue was born on 22 June 1985 in Oostburg. After completing her high school education in Oostburg she studied social work at the Avans University of Applied Sciences in Breda between 2002 and 2006 and obtained a BA. She earned a further MA in 2011. [1] Vermue has worked for social work foundations since 2005 and has served as director of the Stichting Welzijn in West Zeelandic Flanders since September 2014. [1]

Vermue was member of the municipal council of Sluis for the Labour Party between April 2010 and September 2013. [1]

In the parliamentary elections of 2012 Vermue occupied number 48 on the Labour Party list and was not elected. [2] [3] On 22 September 2015 she joined the House of Representatives of the Netherlands and started the temporary replacement of Manon Fokke who went on maternity leave. [4] On 5 November 2015 she became a permanent member of the House when fellow Labour Party MP Martijn van Dam joined the cabinet. [1] [5] Her term in the House ended on 23 March 2017. [1]

She was installed as mayor of Zundert on 3 July 2019, at that point she became youngest mayor in the Netherlands. [6]

Harm Brouwer is a Dutch politician who was a member of the House of Representatives for the Labour Party between 6 July 2016 and 23 March 2017. He previously served twice as a temporary member of the House, most recently from 1 March 2016 to 10 June 2016, when he replaced Lea Bouwmeester while she was pregnant and on maternity leave. Before that, he replaced Manon Fokke from 5 November 2015 to 12 January 2016, when she was pregnant and on maternity leave, after she had previously been temporarily replaced by Joyce Vermue.

2016 Speaker of the Dutch House of Representatives election

The 2016 Speaker of the House of Representatives election was called to elect the new Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands after incumbent Anouchka van Miltenburg of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) had resigned on 12 December 2015. Van Miltenburg, who had been the Speaker since 25 September 2012, resigned after increasing criticism on her performance as Speaker. Khadija Arib of the Labour Party (PvdA), who had been a member of the House of Representatives from 1998 to 2006 and again since 2007, beat Ton Elias of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), who had been a member of the House since 2008.
