The 1995 Summer Universiade, also known as the XVIII Summer Universiade, took place in Fukuoka, Japan.
Kenzo Nakamura is a retired judoka who won a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. He is the younger brother of 1993 World Judo Championships gold medalist Yoshio Nakamura and 1996 Olympic silver medalist Yukimasa Nakamura.
Masashi Ebinuma is a Japanese judoka. Ebinuma is a triple world champion, having won in 2011, 2013 and 2014. A dominant force in the half-lightweight division, he was ranked first in the world for three years. He is regarded as an ultimate stylist of seoi nage. He is also known for being a quadruple All-Japan national champion.

Shira Rishony is an Israeli Olympic lightweight judoka. She competes at U48 kg. She competed for Israel at the 2016 Summer Olympics. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics she won a bronze medal in the mixed team event, and placed 5th in the women's 48 kg event. She won a bronze medal at the 2022 European Championship. Rishony represented Israel at the 2024 Paris Olympics in judo; in the women's 48 kg she came in 17th, and in the mixed team event Team Israel came in ninth.

The 2021 Summer World University Games, officially known as the XXXI Summer World University Games and also known as Chengdu 2021, was a multi-sport event sanctioned by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), held from 28 July to 8 August 2023 primarily in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. It was the fourth edition of the Games hosted by China. This is also the first edition to be referred to as the "Summer World University Games" rather than the "Summer Universiade." The games marked the 15th anniversary of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.

In European Championships, she won a gold medal in 2022 and bronze in 2016 and 2024. Nelson-Levy represented Israel at the 2024 Paris Olympics in judo in the women's 57 kg, coming in ninth, and in the mixed team event, at when Team Israel came in ninth.

He is a four-time medalist, including three gold medals, in the men's 81 kg event at the World Judo Championships. He is also a three-time gold medalist in his event at the European Judo Championships.
Yang Yung-wei is a Taiwanese Paiwan judoka. He is the current silver Olympic medalist in the extra lightweight event. He also won one of the bronze medals in the men's 60 kg event at the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Lasha Bekauri is a Georgian judoka. He won the gold medal in the men's 90 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan and the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. He also won the gold medal in his event at the 2019 Judo World Masters and the 2021 European Judo Championships.
