The FISU World University Games, formerly the Universiade, is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The former name is a portmanteau of the words "University" and "Olympiad".
The 2001 Summer Universiade, also known as the XXI Summer Universiade, was an international multi-sport event that took place in Beijing, China, between 22 August and 1 September. Beijing also hosted the 1990 Asian Games. A total of 6,757 athletes from 165 nations took part in 12 sports. The hosts, China, topped the medal table for the first time, with a total of 103 medals and 54 gold medals.
Ramil Gasimov is an Azerbaijani paralympic judoka, acting in a weight up to 73 kilograms and category B2 blindness, world champion in 2014 and two-time European champion in 2013 and 2015. The winner of the 2007 Summer Universiade in Bangkok. He took part in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Representing Azerbaijan at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, which won the gold medal.
Armen Nazaryan is an Armenian judoka. Nazaryan was awarded the Master of Sport of Armenia, International Class title in 2005.
Judo has been a Universiade compulsory event since 2007 in Bangkok, Thailand. Before this, judo was an optional sport in the 1967, 1985, 1995, 2001 and 2003 editions.
Wang Chin-Fang is a Taiwanese judoka, who competed for the light middleweight category at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She is a two-time defending champion for her category at the 2007 Summer Universiade in Bangkok, Thailand, and at the 2009 Summer Universiade in Belgrade, Serbia. She also won two medals each at the Asian Games and at the Asian Judo Championships.
Meriem Moussa is an Algerian judoka, who played for the extra-lightweight category.
Kim Sung-Bum is a South Korean judoka, who competed in the men's heavyweight category. He is a two-time Olympian, and four-time medalist at the Asian Judo Championships. He defeated Iran's Mahmoud Miran for the gold medal in the open weight division at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar. Kim also captured two more medals for the same division at the 2003 Summer Universiade in Jeju City, and at the 2007 Summer Universiade in Bangkok, Thailand.
Judo was contested at the 2013 Summer Universiade at the TatNeft Arena in Kazan, Russia from 7 to 11 July 2013.
Kwon Young-woo is a South Korean judoka, who competed in the men's middleweight category. He captured two golds in the 81-kg division at the Summer Universiade, completed a full set of medals at the Asian Judo Championships, and later finished seventh at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Lee Bok-hee is a South Korean judoka, who competed in the women's half-middleweight category. She won fourteen medals in her career, including a silver in the 2001 East Asian Games in Osaka, Japan, achieved fifth-place finishes at the 2003 World Judo Championships, and represented her nation South Korea in the 63-kg class at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Murat Kalikulov is an Uzbek judoka, who competed in the men's half-lightweight category. He held the 2004 Uzbek senior title in his own division, picked up five medals in his career, including a silver from the 2001 Summer Universiade in Beijing, and represented his nation Uzbekistan in the 66-kg class at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Egamnazar Muftillayevich Akbarov is an Uzbek judoka, who competed in the men's lightweight category. He picked up a total of eight medals in his career, including a gold from the 2001 Summer Universiade in Beijing, China and a bronze from the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea, and represented his nation Uzbekistan in the 73-kg class at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Judo was contested at the 2015 Summer Universiade at the Yeomju Bitgoeul Gymnasium in Gwangju, South Korea from 4 to 8 July 2015.
The FISU World University Championships are part of the sporting events of the International University Sports Federation. Launched the FISU World University Championships in 1963, with Lund, Sweden hosting the Handball event.
