The Juno Award for Rap Recording of the Year was introduced in 1991, and awarded for the best rap album in Canada. It was formerly known as Best Rap Recording from 1993 to 2002.[ citation needed ]
Before 1999, because of the relatively limited commercial visibility of Canadian hip hop, the award was presented the evening before the main Juno Award ceremony, along with the untelevised technical and industry insider awards. In 1998, Rascalz won the award, but claiming racism as a factor in the award's scheduling, refused to accept it. [1] The Junos moved the award to the main ceremony the following year.
The award nominations commonly mixed individual singles and full albums. At the Juno Awards of 2021, CARAS president Allan Reid announced that beginning with the Juno Awards of 2022, the category will be split into new separate categories for Rap Album/EP of the Year and Rap Single of the Year. [2]

The Juno Awards, or simply known as the Junos, are awards presented by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences to recognize outstanding achievements in Canada's music industry. The Grammy Awards are the United States' equivalent of the Juno Awards. Alongside the Canadian Screen Awards, they are considered one of the main annual Canadian entertainment award shows. The Juno Award for "Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the Year" has been awarded since 1998, as recognition each year for the best Christian/Gospel music album in Canada. A separate organization, the Gospel Music Association of Canada, hands out a full array of awards for Canadian Contemporary Christian/Gospel music, covering a wide range of genres, each year with the annual Covenant Awards.
The Juno Award for Global Music Album of the Year has been awarded since 1992, as recognition each year for the best world music album in Canada. It has previously been known as other names including "Best World Best Recording" and "Best World Music Album", with the current name being established in 2022.
The Juno Award for "Reggae Recording of the Year" has been awarded since 1985, as recognition each year for the best reggae album or single in Canada.

The Juno Awards of 2023 was a music awards ceremony that was held on 13 March 2023 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta. It recognized the best recordings, compositions, and artists of the eligibility year determined by the members of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. It returned to its usual March schedule for the first time since 2019 after COVID-19 pandemic had the last three events took place in June 2020, May 2021, and May 2022, respectively. Canadian actor Simu Liu, who hosted the 2022 ceremony, returned to host again.
