Justin Louis Raisen is an American record producer, songwriter, audio engineer, and mixing engineer. His early credits include working with Charli XCX and Sky Ferreira. He has also worked with Lawrence Rothman, Yves Tumor, Drake, and Lil Yachty.
Raisen, a native of Massapequa, New York, lives in Los Angeles where he owns a recording studio. [1] [2] In 2019, he launched his record label, KRO Records, with Lawrence and Yves Rothman. [3] KRO's first release included two tracks from River Phoenix's band Aleka's Attic, along with a single from Rain Phoenix featuring Michael Stipe. [4] Next was the single "Poison" by Marissa Nadler featuring John Cale. [5] Other 2019 releases included Kills Birds' self-titled debut LP; Buzzy Lee's EP, "Close Encounters of Our Own Kind"; and a single titled "Mother" by Courtney Love. [6] [7] [8] In 2020, KRO Records released the soundtrack for Steven Spielberg's The Turning under exclusive license to Sony Music Entertainment. [9]
After the Lizzo single "Truth Hurts" was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019, Raisen, alongside his brother Jeremiah, accused Lizzo of plagiarizing a line from his song "Healthy" and asked to receive songwriting credits. [10] Instead, Lizzo filed a lawsuit in order to receive a declaratory judgment blocking the Raisens from receiving any songwriting credits. [2] The Raisens responded in February 2020 by filing a counterclaim, asking for royalties and songwriting credits for the song. [11]

The album was recorded at Seattle's Avast Studios and produced by Randall Dunn. PopMatters called the album a "triumph" and "one of 2014's best albums so far", while Spin called it a "masterfully composed release". Noisey wrote that "the darkly lit July is a moody trip through heat spells and night drives... Nadler's quiet songwriting and ethereal sound give July a sound that's, at times, almost sinister."
