Lieutenant General Kaiwalya Trivikram Parnaik PVSM,UYSM,YSM (born 28 June 1953) is a retired general officer of the Indian Army who is serving as Governor of Arunachal Pradesh. [2] [3] [4] He is the first person from Maharashtra who take over as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Northern Command. [5]
Parnaik studied at the St. Aloysius Senior Secondary School,along with his brother A. T. Parnaik,also a lieutenant general,who retired as Director General Border Roads. [6] Later He joined Sainik School,Rewa and National Defence Academy. He was commissioned into the 2nd Rajputana Rifles on 31 March 1972 from the Indian Military Academy. He attended the Defence Services Staff College,Wellington. He commanded the 2nd battalion,The Rajputana Rifles (2 RajRif) in the Rajasthan Sector and in Jammu and Kashmir. He also attended the Senior Command and the Higher Command Course. [7]
On 26 January 2003,Parnaik was awarded the Yudh Seva Medal for his command of an infantry brigade during the 2001–2002 India–Pakistan standoff. He attended the National Defence College in 2004 as part of the 44th course. [8] [9]
Promoted to the rank of Major General,Parnaik was appointed General officer commanding 17 Mountain Division in Sikkim. [10] He later commanded the Indian Military Training Team (IMTRAT) in Bhutan. [11] In 2009,Parnaik was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed General officer commanding IV Corps in Tezpur. After a year-long tenure as GOC IV Corps,he moved to Army HQ as the Director General Perspective Planning - DG (PP). For his tenure as GOC IV Corps,on 26 January 2010,Parnaik was awarded the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal. [12]
On 1 December 2010,Parnaik was accorded the status of Army Commander and named the Commander-designate of the Northern Command. He took over from Lieutenant General B. S. Jaswal on 1 January 2011. [13] On 26 January 2012,he was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal. [14] After a two-and-a-half year stint as Northern Army Commander,he retired from the Army on 30 June 2013. [15]
Parnaik was appointed Governor by Droupadi Murmu,President of India on 12 February 2023. [16] He was congratulated by Pema Khandu,Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, [17] Chowna Mein,Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh [18] and Yogi Adityanath,Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for becoming Governor. [19]
Brij Mohan Kaul (1912-1972) was a Lieutenant General in the Indian Army. He served as the Chief of General Staff during 1961–1962 and was regarded as a key architect of Indian military response to the Chinese challenge. In October 1962,he was given the command of a newly raised IV Corps to counter the impending Chinese invasion of NEFA,but it got routed by the Chinese. He resigned in the aftermath of the war,and was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 1960.
General Joginder Jaswant Singh,PVSM,AVSM,VSM,ADC is an Indian politician and former Army Chief. He was the 21st Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Indian Army. He was appointed on 27 November 2004,and took over the role when his predecessor,General N C Vij,retired on 31 January 2005. He was succeeded by General Deepak Kapoor. He served as the COAS from 31 January 2005,to 30 September 2007.
General Bipin Rawat was an Indian military officer who was a four-star general of the Indian Army. He served as the first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Indian Armed Forces from January 2020 until his death in a helicopter crash in December 2021. Prior to taking over as the CDS,he served as the 57th Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee of the Indian Armed Forces as well as 27th Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Indian Army.
Lieutenant General Sami Khan,PVSM,SM was a General in the Indian Army who served as the 13th General officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Command,Lucknow. Gen Khan had earlier served as the Commandant of the National Defence Academy,Khadakwasla.
Lieutenant General Dr. Konsam Himalay Singh PVSM,UYSM,AVSM,YSM is a former Lieutenant General of the Indian Army. He is the first officer from northeast India to reach the rank of lieutenant general in the Indian Army and the first military officer from Manipur to reach the ranks of brigadier and major general. He was the Chairman of Manipur Public Service Commission and is currently a member of the Consultative Committee of Manipur Government on Naga Peace Talks as well as a visiting faculty member of Manipur University.
Lieutenant General Devraj Anbu,PVSM,UYSM,AVSM,YSM,SM,ADC is a retired general officer of the Indian Army who served as 39th Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS). He assumed office on 1 June 2018 following the retirement of Lieutenant General Sarath Chand,and retired on 31 August 2019. He also served as General Officer-Commanding-in-Chief Northern Command from 1 December 2016 to 31 May 2018,prior to that commanding Northern Command,he had commanded IV Corps in the North East.
Lieutenant General Deependra Singh Hooda,PVSM,UYSM,AVSM,VSM &Bar,ADC is the former General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian army's Northern Command. The General Officer was the Northern Army Commander during the 'surgical strike' in September 2016. He is most prominently known for his views on Kashmir with a strong emphasis on human rights. With a career spanning forty years,he has served on both the Northern and Eastern borders of India.

Lieutenant general Manjinder Singh AVSM,YSM,VSM is a serving general officer of the Indian Army. He currently serves as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Army Training Command (ARTRAC) Shimla. He previously served as the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff at HQ IDS,prior to this he was General Officer Commanding XVI Corps. He also served as Chief of Staff of the Western Command.
Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh was a Deputy Chief Staff of the Indian Army from 2014 to 2016. Currently,he is the 8th Governor of Uttarakhand since 2021. Singh retired on 31 January 2016 after nearly four decades in the army,where he was deputy chief of Army Staff,and adjutant general and corps commander of strategic XV Corps that overlooks the Line of Control in Kashmir. He has also worked in border issues and counter-terrorism.
