Karwar railway division is one of the two railway divisions under Konkan Railway of Indian Railways. This railway division was formed on 26 January 1998 and its headquarter is located at Karwar in the state of Karnataka of India.

Ratnagiri railway division is another railway division under Konkan Railway headquartered at Mumbai. Karwar railway region extends over 660 kilometres (410 mi) from Pernem in Goa to Surathkal in Karnataka. Railway Regions are headed by a Regional Railway Manager. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Konkan Railway Railway in Maharashtra, India

The Konkan Railway is a railway operated by the Konkan Railway Corporation, with its headquarters at CBD Belapur in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The first passenger train ran on Konkan railway tracks on 20 March 1993, between Udupi and Mangalore. During its initial years of operation in the mountainous Konkan region, a number of accidents prompted Konkan Railway to implement new technology. Anti-collision devices, the Sky Bus and roll-on/roll-off are several of the railway's innovations. The 756.25 km (469.91 mi) long railway line connects the states of Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka. Konkan

Konkan is the rugged section of the mid-western coastline of the Indian Subcontinent, the coastal hinterland of Konkan comprises of numerous riverine islands, river valleys, and the hilly slopes of the Western Ghats, that lead up into the tablelands of the Deccan region. Geographically, Konkan is bound by the Arabian Sea to the west, the Deccan plateau to the east. The Konkan Coast proceeds from the north at Damaon in the Gulf of Cambay, extends southwards all along the western seaside areas of Maharashtra and Goa, and meets the Canara coast at the northern edge of Karwar District in Karnataka. The most well known islands of Konkan, are Ilhas de Goa, the site of the capital city of Panjim and Salsette Island on which Bombay (Mumbai), the capital of Maharashtra is situated.

Transport in Karnataka

Karnataka, a state in South India has a well-developed transport system. Joida town in Karnataka, India

Joida is a small town in the Uttar Kannada district in the Indian state of Karnataka. The town is the headquarters of the eponymous taluk. Mookambika Road Byndoor railway station

Mookambika Road Byndoor is a railway station in coastal Karnataka in South India. Its four-letter code is BYNR. Mookambika Road Byndoor is the main railway station in the town of Udupi district. It serves Byndoor city which is 1 kilometre away from the station Trains from here connect the city to prominent state capitals of India like, Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai and so forth. Rail connectivity in Byndoor was established in 1997. A total of 34 express and passenger trains halt here; there was one originating and terminating trains at this station: Mokambika Road–Kannur Passenger train; however this service was terminated in 2017 within two years of service due to lack of revenue generation. Although the railway station caters to a lot of passengers and superfast trains on a daily basis, it does not have a siding line or passing loop. Any crossing of trains can only happen either on Bijoor or Shiroor railway stations 19 km apart.

The Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus – Mangaluru Junction Superfast Express is a superfast train of the Indian Railways connecting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai in Maharashtra and Mangaluru Junction of Karnataka. It is currently being operated with 12133/12134 train numbers on daily basis.
