The Konkan Railway is one of the 19 railway zones in India with its headquarters at CBD Belapur in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The first passenger train ran on Konkan railway tracks on 20 March 1993, between Udupi and Mangalore. During its initial years of operation in the mountainous Konkan region, a number of accidents prompted Konkan Railway to implement new technology. Anti-collision devices, the Sky Bus and roll-on/roll-off are several of the railway's innovations. The 756.25 km (469.91 mi) long railway line connects the states of Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka. The first train on the completed track was sent off on 26 January 1998.

Kudal is a census town in Sindhudurg district, Maharashtra, India. It is situated on River Karli in southwest Maharashtara. Kudal is the fourth largest town in Sindhudurg after Sawantwadi, Malvan and Kankavli. As of 2011, the population is 16,015. Kudal supports one MIDC area in the Konkan division. The Kudal railway station is located on the Konkan Railway route and connects the town with Mumbai metro situated in the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway of the north, and Mangalore on the south. It is a major stop for the Konkan Railway. The Deccan Odyssey train also stops in Kudal. National Highway 66 passes through Kudal. Apart from that, it also has two bus stations, a new one and old one. The old one is situated in market while the new one is just adjacent to the NH-66. Kudal is situated in centre of the Sindhudurg district and also considered one of the fastest-growing towns in the Konkan region. The Desai's were the original rulers of Kudal, who were tributaries of the Bijapur Sultanate, later the Marathas and then under the British.
Pernem is a northmost administrative region or sub-district in North Goa. It acts as the Gateway of Goa from Maharashtra side. It is also the name of the town of Pernem, which is its headquarters. It has a Municipal Council. Geographically, Pernem is surrounded by Sawantwadi sub-district on East, Arabian Sea on West, Bardez and Bicholim sub-district on south and Sawantwadi sub-district on north. The two rivers which decide the boundary of this sub-district are Terekhol River and Chapora River. Terekhol river acts as a border of Maharashtra and Goa while Chapora river acts as a border of Pernem sub-district and Bardez sub-district.
The Skybus Metro was a prototype suspended railway system by Indian technologist B. Rajaram with the BEML and Konkan Railway. The system consisted of an elevated track with the cars suspended below, similar to the Wuppertal Schwebebahn or H-Bahn systems in Germany.

With the advent of low-cost airlines, many people are choosing to travel via air as well.
The Mangala Lakshadweep Superfast Express is a Superfast train in India that runs between Hazrat Nizamuddin in Delhi and Ernakulam Junction in Kochi, Kerala via the Konkan Railway route. It is operated by Southern Railway with 12617 / 12618 train numbers. In 1973, the earlier version of this train was the first direct train to Kerala and Coastal Karnataka from the national capital. In its renewed form as Mangala Lakshadweep Express, it became the 1st daily train connecting North,Central Kerala and New Delhi after Kerala Express (1977). It is also regarded as the 1st daily direct access train to the national capital for the Malabar districts, Coastal Karnataka districts and Lakshadweep.It is the only train which connects Nashik,Manmad to Kerala apart from Coimbatore Jabalpur Express.
The 12449 / 12450 Goa Sampark Kranti Express is one of the most important trains among the Sampark Kranti Express trains series operated on Indian Railways by the Northern Railway Delhi Division between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Madgaon Junction, a town in the Indian state of Goa The train is extended to Chandigarh similar to Kerala Sampark Kranti recently.
Duronto Express is a category of long-distance fast trains run by the Indian Railways. Initially these trains did not have any passenger stops between the origin and the destination, but since January 2016 it is possible to book tickets from those technical stops. These trains were introduced in 2009 and were named 'Duronto', meaning 'speedster' in Bengali, as it was the fastest train of that time, and now second fastest train series,just after Vande Bharat Express and Gatimaan Express.Today This series of trains regularly gets the second highest priority in the Indian Railways and is considered as its most premium train.Unlike Rajdhani Exprss,Duronto Express services connect the several metros to other metros one major state capitals of India to other and national capital to state capitals. The cost of a Duronto Express is around Rs. 60 crore.
Ernakulam Duronto Express is a weekly Duronto Express that runs between Kerala, and the national capital New Delhi. It is the longest running Durunto Express in India. It runs through the scenic Konkan Railway. This is the first Duronto express to Kerala and the longest running Duronto express in Indian Railways. The Train Number is 12283/84.
The Ernakulam–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Duronto Express is a bi-weekly nonstop Duronto Express train between Kochi and Mumbai, running through the scenic Konkan Railway route. It is considered to be the 2nd fastest option for train connectivity between Kochi and Mumbai.

Mookambika Road Byndoor is a railway station in coastal Karnataka in South India. Its four-letter code is BYNR. Mookambika Road Byndoor is the main railway station in the town of Byndoor in Udupi district. It serves Byndoor city which is 1 kilometre away from the station. It is the nearest railway station to the famous pilgrimage centre, Kollur Mookambika temple. The distance from Byndoor railway station to Kollur Mookambika temple is about 28 km which can be covered in 40 minutes to one hour by road. Trains from here connect the city to prominent state capitals of India like Bangalore (Karnataka), Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai and so forth. It is also well connected to the major railway stations such as Goa (Madgoan), Udupi, Mangalore, Kasaragod and Ernakulam. Rail connectivity in Byndoor was established in 1997. A total of 34 express and passenger trains halt here; there was one originating and terminating trains at this station: Mookambika Road–Kannur Passenger train; however this service was terminated in 2017 within two years of service due to lack of revenue generation. Although the railway station caters to a lot of passengers and superfast trains on a daily basis, it does not have a siding line or passing loop. Any crossing of trains can only happen either on Bijoor or Shiroor railway stations 19 km apart.
