Kaveri Dimar (also spelled Kaveri Dhimar) is an Indian canoeist, who won a bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Canoe Sprint Championships. [1]

Early life

Dimar was born in a fisherman's family in Mandi village, Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, the fifth of nine siblings. As she grew up, she would accompany her father and elder sisters when they went fishing. [2] The Khandwa district Sports Officer, Joseph Baxla, spotted her talent as a promising swimmer in 2016, and she was admitted to the Madhya Pradesh Water Sports Academy in 2017. She later turned to canoeing as a sport. [3] She studies at the Lovely Professional University. [4]

Career

Dimar has won 15 gold, two silver and a bronze across various solo and team events in India's National Canoe Championships over the period 2020–2022. She teamed up with Namita Chandel, Anjali Bashishth and Shivani Verma to win the bronze medal in the C-4 200m event at the 2022 Asian Canoe Sprint Championships in Rayong. [1]

The 2011 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships was the thirty-ninth edition of the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, that took place between 17 and 21 August 2011 in Szeged, Hungary. The Southern Hungarian city welcomed the world event for the third time, having hosted the championship previously in 1998 and 2006. These championships were awarded initially to Vichy, France, however, the race course on the Allier proved to be inadequate to hold the competition and the French Canoe Federation withdraw from organizing the event, following that Szeged, the original host of the 2013 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, was moved up to 2011.

Orçun Tolga Karaoğlanoğlu, is a Turkish sprint kayaker. He was born in Balıkesir, Turkey. He is a student of the Turkish Naval Academy, and competes for his school's team.

The 2013 Canoe Sprint European Championships were the 25th edition of the Canoe Sprint European Championships, an international canoe and kayak sprint event organised by the European Canoe Association, and the 15th edition since its revival in 1997. They were held for the first time in Portugal, at the Center for High Performance in Montemor-o-Velho, between 14 and 16 June 2013. As in the previous edition, the competition comprised 26 events, of which 16 were for men and 10 for women.

The 2016 Canoe Sprint European Championships was the 28th edition of the Canoe Sprint European Championships, an international sprint canoe/kayak and paracanoe event organised by the European Canoe Association, held in Moscow, Russia, between 24 and 26 June 2016.

The 2018 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, the 44th edition of the World Championships, were held in Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal, from 22 to 26 August 2018.

The 2019 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, the 45th edition of the World Championships, were held in Szeged, Hungary from 21 to 25 August 2019.

This article details the canoeing at the 2020 Summer Olympics qualifying phase. The 2020 Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Similar to 2012 and 2016 format, a qualification system has been set up for both slalom and sprint canoeing at these games. The quotas have already been set for each event by the International Canoe Federation in October 2018.

Sophia Jensen is a Canadian sprint canoeist. She has been a member of the Canoe Kayak Canada sprint national team since 2017. Jensen is considered to be an important figure in women's sprint canoe worldwide and, in 2019, she was named National Female Athlete of the Year at the Sports Québec annual gala.

Simon McTavish is a Canadian male sprint kayaker. Born in Oakville, Ontario, Simon McTavish moved with his family to Sydney, Australia where he began paddling in 2011 at the age of 14. He represented Australia for 7 years from 2012 to 2018 on Olympic Hopes, Junior, U23 and Senior Teams. After successful international results in 2018, winning medals for Australia at the U23 World Championships and the FISU World University Games, the opportunity presented itself to return home to Canada and Simon jumped at it.

Namita Chandel is an Indian canoeist, who won four gold medals at the National Canoe Sprint Championship in 2016 and one in 2017. She represented India at the 2022 Asian Canoe Sprint Championships, where she was part of a bronze-winning team in the C-4 200m discipline.

The 2022 ICF World Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint Championships took place in Szeged, Hungary from 31 August to 4 September 2022.

Ian Gaudet is a Canadian male sprint kayaker. His home club is Banook Canoe Club on Lake Banook in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
