A European Championship is the top level international sports competition between European athletes or sports teams representing their respective countries or professional sports clubs.
Outrigger boats are various watercraft featuring one or more lateral support floats known as outriggers, which are fastened to one or both sides of the main hull. They can range from small dugout canoes to large plank-built vessels. Outrigger boats can also vary in their configuration, from the ancestral double-hull configuration (catamarans), to single-outrigger vessels prevalent in the Pacific Islands and Madagascar, to the double-outrigger vessels (trimarans) prevalent in Island Southeast Asia. They are traditionally fitted with Austronesian sails, like the crab claw sails and tanja sails, but in modern times are often fitted with petrol engines.
The International Canoe Federation (ICF) is the umbrella organization of all national canoe organizations worldwide. It is headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, and administers all aspects of canoe sport worldwide. 157 countries are affiliated with the ICF after seven national federations were added at the 2008 ICF Congress in Rome.
The ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships are an international event in canoe racing, one of two Summer Olympic sport events organized by the International Canoe Federation. The ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships are an international event in canoeing organized by the International Canoe Federation. The World Championships have taken place every year in non-Summer Olympic years since 2002. From 1949 to 1999, they had taken place in odd-numbered years. The 2001 championships were scheduled to take place in Ducktown, Tennessee from 20 to 23 September, but were canceled in the wake of the September 11 attacks.
Vadim Menkov is an Uzbek male sprint canoeist who has competed since the late 2000s. He has won six medals at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships with two golds, a silver and two bronze. Most recently, Menkov won the gold medal in the sprint C1-1000m event in canoeing at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.
The Pakistan Canoe and Kayak Federation (PCKF) is the official national governing body for canoeing and kayaking Olympic sports in Pakistan. Its function is to promote sporting activities and events for canoe and kayak paddlers across the country on a national and international level. PCKF is a non-profit organisation, which represents all people and organisations with a genuine interest in canoeing, kayaking and associated sports, helping them to increase the profile of these sports across Pakistan.

It was the 23rd edition and it marked the first time that women competed for the single canoe world cup points and title. The series consisted of 2 continental championships which were open to all countries and 3 world cup races. The athletes gained points for their results in the three world cup races plus their best result from any of the two continental championships.

The Philippines national dragon boat team is the national dragon boat team of the Philippines and represents the country in international dragon boat. There is an ongoing dispute between the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation and the Philippine Canoe-Kayak Dragon Boat Federation over which is the sole legitimate sporting body over the national dragon boat team. The Philippine Dragon Boat Federation is a member of the International Dragon Boat Federation while the Philippine Canoe-Kayak Dragon Boat Federation is the recognized by the Philippine Olympic Committee. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) have stated that as a Full Member of Sportaccord, the IDBF is the only recognized world governing body for dragon boating. Therefore, the IDBF Members are the national governing bodies for dragon boating in their own countries. The two organizations field their own dragon boat teams.
